Gifts from GOD

This is a Bible study on the Gifts from GOD.     Click here for a printable Bible Study Guide.

God is able to make you abound in every good work. 2 Corinthians 9:8

Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. 1 Corinthians 2:12

Where do all our gifts come from?

Our gifts come from the Lord God.

All Good and Perfect Gifts are from God

Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. James 1:17

The Father of Lights, our gracious Heavenly Father God, gives us every good gift and every perfect gift from above.

No matter how busy our lives become, we must never forget where all our good and perfect gifts come from, our Eternal Creator, our Father of Lights.

God has and will always give us good and perfect gifts from above, and in Him there is no variableness, nor shadow of turning, He is eternally the Father of Lights, the Father of good and perfect gifts.

What are the gifts from GOD?

The gifts of God are:

  • The gift of Christ (Ephesians 4:7)
  • The gift of God (Romans 6:23), which is the gift of righteousness (Romans 5:17), the free gift, the unspeakable gift (2 Corinthians 9:15), the gift of Christ (Ephesians 4:7), the gift of salvation, the gift of eternal life
  • The gift of grace (Ephesians 3:7)
  • The gift of mercy
  • The gift of faith
  • The gift of love
  • The gift of ability
  • The gift of strength
  • The gift of prophecy (1 Corinthians 13:2), preaching, teaching,
  • Spiritual gifts (1 Corinthians 12:8-11; 14:12 )
  • The gift of healing (1 Corinthians 12:28)

There are so many gifts from God that I am unable to list them all.

We know from His word, that God wants to give all His children all His gifts.

There is nothing that God wants to hold back from us - God wants to give all good things to us.

If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? Matthew 7:11

Our first gift from God is our life, when God created us and when God breathed life into our mortal bodies.

Gift of Life, our first gift from God

Just as God breathed life into the first man He created, Adam, God continues to create life and breathe into each human being that He creates today.  God created each and everyone of us.  God Himself breathes life into all human beings

And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. Genesis 2:7

Gift of Jesus, the greatest gift from God

To receive all of God's gifts, you must first accept is greatest gift - His Son, Jesus Christ.

You accept His Son by God's grace through faith.

By grace are ye saved through faith.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Ephesians 2:8

By the grace of God we are given the gift of faith.  Through faith in God we are given salvation.  We all receive salvation, the gift of God, the same way, by the grace of God through faith in God.

Jesus Christ is the Son of God

Let us start with God's greatest gift - JESUS, God's only begotten Son.

Without Jesus we could not receive God's gift of salvation, redemption of our sins, and inheritance into the kingdom of God, and eternal life.

Through the gift of God's only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, we can receive:

  • God's endless love
  • Grace
  • Faith
  • Forgiveness of our sins
  • Salvation
  • Personal relationship with Jesus
  • Everlasting Life
  • Heirs to the kingdom of God
  • Holy Spirit

So with God's first Gift - Jesus, we receive many, many more gifts.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

God didn't have to create us or love us, but He did.

And God loved us so much that He gave us His most precious gift - His  only begotten Son, the one and only Jesus Christ.

Not only did he give us His Son, but said - whosoever - all who believe on His Son, Jesus, do not have to die - but may have everlasting life.

How wonderful is our God!  No one else can ever do what God did for us. No one can save us but God's Son, Jesus.

Jesus is the gift of God.

Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. John 4:10

Gift of the Love of God

God loves us! God loves us unconditionally.  God loved us before we loved Him.  God loves us with all our faults and misdirection.  God has great plans for all our lives.  God has wonders above wonders to show us and give us.

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 1 John 4:9

God physically and outwardly showed us His love toward us, by giving us His only begotten Son to us, as a sacrifice for our sins, so that we might live through Jesus and receive the gift of eternal life.  The giving of Jesus to us was the manifestation of the love of God.

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 4:10

God the Father gave His only begotten Son, Jesus, to us as the propitiation for our sins, while we were still sinners, while we didn't love God.  God loved us before we loved Him.

Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. 1 John 4:12

And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. Romans 5:5

But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. 1 John 2:5

For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. 1 John 5:3

God the Son, Jesus Christ, laid down His life for us, so that we could live, so that we could receive everlasting life in the Kingdom of God for all eternity.

Hereby perceive we the love of God, because he laid down his life for us: and we ought to lay down our lives for the brethren. 1 John 3:16

And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ. 2 Thessalonians 3:5

Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life. Jude 1:21

Nothing can separate us from the Love of God.  We are promised by God that nothing can separate His love from us, not death, not life, not angels, not principalities, not powers, not present things, not things to come, not height, not depth, not any other creature, nothing is able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39

The love of God is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Gift of Grace

Grace is the gift of God.  Through the power of God we are given the gift of the grace of God.  We are all given grace by God.

What we do with the grace of God is our choice, we either accept God's grace or we reject it.  The grace of God is given to every human being.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Ephesians 2:8

Whereof I was made a minister, according to the gift of the grace of God given unto me by the effectual working of his power. Ephesians 3:7

But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ. Ephesians 4:7

For more information see - GRACE

Gift of Faith

Faith is a gift from God.  The ability to have faith in God is from God.

For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. Romans 12:3

God gives every human being the measure of faith.  God enables us all to have faith in Him.  We are all given the measure of faith, but we do not all use it.

Faith in God is a choice, our choice, we must all choose to have in God.  Every human being has faith, but not everyone has faith in God.  We have the ability to have faith in God, but we do not all choose to have faith in God.

Without faith in Jesus Christ it is impossible to please God.  Through faith in Jesus Christ, God the Son, we please God the Father.

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6

For more information see - FAITH

Gift of Forgiveness

Jesus is faithful and just to forgive all our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness, from all sin, if we confess our sins.

God promises to forgive us of all our sins if we confess and repent of our sin.  God gives us the gift of forgiveness.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

Only because of Jesus are our sins forgiven.  Forgiveness of sins is through Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake. 1 John 2:12

The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree.  Him hath God exalted with his right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. Acts  5:30-31

To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. Acts 26:18

Our sins are forgiven by God through Jesus when we forgive others of their sins against us.

Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: Luke 6:37

For more information see - FORGIVENESS

Gift of Salvation

Salvation is the gift of God, freely given to all people through faith in God by the grace of God.

Salvation cannot be purchased or earned by good works, no God tells us that His salvation is His gift to us through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Ephesians 2:8

We are to share the gift of salvation with others.

As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God. If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:10-11

Unspeakable Gift

Thanks be to God for His unspeakable gift, which is the gift of His only begotten Son, who is Jesus Christ, God's gift to all the people of the world, for remission of all their sins.

Thanks be unto God for his unspeakable gift. 2 Corinthians 9:15

Without the unspeakable gift from God, no one would ever be able to see God, and be with God for eternity, no one would receive eternal life in the Kingdom of God.

Free Gift

The free gift, is the gift of grace, is the gift of salvation, and is the gift of Jesus Christ.

God's free gift of salvation, of redemption, of eternal life, cannot be purchased by us, because it is the free gift.  God freely gives the free gift of eternal life, to all people everywhere who believe in His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ as their personal Lord and Saviour over their lives.

When we surrender all of ourselves to Christ Jesus, God gives us His free gift of salvation, which is eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Only through faith in Christ Jesus as our LORD God and Saviour can we be saved from sin and death.

But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. Romans 5:15

Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. Romans 5:18

And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. Romans 5:16

We are not born righteous, we are not born in the flesh as the children of God, but through Christ Jesus we put on the righteousness of God, and are justified unto God through Christ Jesus, we are made righteous through faith in Jesus, by the grace of Jesus we are sanctified unto God, we receive eternal life through one, Jesus Christ, our LORD God and Saviour.

Gift of righteousness

For if by one man's offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.) Romans 5:17

Through Jesus Christ we are given the gift of righteousness by the abundance of grace.  God gives us the ability to be righteous through Jesus Christ.

Without Jesus Christ, no one can receive the gift of righteousness, no one can be saved without receiving Jesus as their Lord and Saviour.

Gift of having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ

Jesus said that He will NOT leave us comfortless.  Jesus said that because He lives, so can anyone who has faith in Him as their Lord God and Saviour.  Jesus said if we love Him, that He will love us and He will manifest Himself to us.  Jesus said all that love Him shall be loved of His Father God in Heaven.

Jesus said if we keep His word, the Holy Word of God and love Him, that He and God the Father will come to us and live within us.

I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you. Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also. At that day ye shall know that I am in my Father, and ye in me, and I in you. He that hath my commandments, and keepeth them, he it is that loveth me: and he that loveth me shall be loved of my Father, and I will love him, and will manifest myself to him. John 14:18-21

Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him. John 14:23

As the children of God, we are promised comfort and eternal life through Jesus Christ, the gift of having a personal relationship with our Lord and Saviour.

God lives, makes abode, with all His loving children.

Gift of Eternal Life

Eternal life is the gift of God through Jesus Christ our Lord.  Eternal life is given to all people who have faith in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Saviour.

Eternal life is through Christ Jesus our Lord.  By the grace of God through faith in God we are saved, and there is no other way to be saved, except through faith in Christ Jesus.

We are saved by the grace of Jesus through faith in Jesus.  God alone saves everyone from sin and death, all who come to Him in faith.

There is only one God, one eternal life, which is through Jesus Christ our LORD God and Saviour.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23

For more information see - ETERNAL LIFE

Gift of inheritance in the Kingdom of God

Through faith in Christ Jesus, by the grace of God, we become the children of God, joint-heirs with Christ Jesus and shall receive the reward of the inheritance of the Kingdom of God.

The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. Romans 8:16-17

Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ. Colossians 3:24

That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. Titus 3:7

Gift of the Holy Ghost

Through salvation by faith in Jesus Christ we receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.  The Holy Spirit of God lives within all the children of God.

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38

And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you. John 14:16-17

And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. Romans 5:5

And we are his witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey him. Acts 5:32

Spiritual Gifts

Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. Ye know that ye were Gentiles, carried away unto these dumb idols, even as ye were led. Wherefore I give you to understand, that no man speaking by the Spirit of God calleth Jesus accursed: and that no man can say that Jesus is the Lord, but by the Holy Ghost. Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will. For as the body is one, and hath many members, and all the members of that one body, being many, are one body: so also is Christ. 1 Corinthians 12:1-13

Follow after charity, and desire spiritual gifts, but rather that ye may prophesy. 1 Corinthians 14:1

Even so ye, forasmuch as ye are zealous of spiritual gifts, seek that ye may excel to the edifying of the church. 1 Corinthians 14:12

One same Spirit of God gives spiritual gifts. There is but One Almighty Jehovah Lord God who by His Spirit gives us His Spiritual gifts.

Many diverse spiritual gifts.  There are diversities of spiritual gifts gifted to us from the one same Spirit - the Spirit of God, the Holy Ghost.

Diversities of operations.  The One Creator same God works all in all diversities of operations.  The operation of God alone allows, gifts us His spiritual gifts.  The spiritual gifts of God are from God alone.

Every man is given spiritual gifts to profit withal.  Spiritual gifts are manifested - shown - evident in the lives of believers.  The manifestation of spiritual gifts - given to us by the Spirit of God - is given to every man to profit withal.   God does not withhold His spiritual gifts from anyone, as the Spirit of God gifts every believer.  No one is withheld spiritual gifts.  All believers who submit themselves to God, sanctify the Lord God in their hearts, who ask God for His spiritual gifts will be given spiritual gifts.

God gifts every person who comes to Him as He wills.  It is the will and purpose of the Holy Spirit to gift every believer, empower every believer with spiritual gifts of God.  The Spirit of God gifts one the word of wisdom, to another the word of knowledge - all by one same Spirit of God - to another faith - to another the gifts of healing - to another working of miracles - to another prophecy - to another the power and ability to discern godly spirits from evil spirits - to another divers kinds of tongues - to another the interpretation of tongues - but all these are the work of One same Spirit - the Spirit of God - the Holy Ghost - who gives the spiritual gifts of God - dividing as He will to every person.

Desire spiritual gifts - 1 Corinthians 14:1.  All believers of God are to desire spiritual gifts.  We are all to be zealous - seek and pursue wholeheartedly - all the spiritual gifts from God - so that we can glorify God and edify the body of Christ Jesus, the church of God - 1 Corinthians 14:12.

Doctrines of men.  Do not let the idols of man made doctrine lead you to think that spiritual gifts are not gifts from God, are not to be desired, as they certainly are because God says so in His word.   Do not let other doctrines invade your mind, capture your mind, and take precedence over the Word of God.  Many traditions of men, doctrines of men, false doctrine, and denominations teach that the Holy Spirit does not give the children of God spiritual gifts as the Word of God clearly states.  Many teachers preach their own gospel that there are no such thing as spiritual gifts today for the children of God, which is contrary to the written word of God and the Holy Spirit's teaching today.  Do not listen to men, listen to God, read what is in the word of God for yourself.  Do not be deceived.  Do not follow those that ridicule the word of God, fabricate lies and even jokes about the gifts of God, oppose the word of God, and those who preach a different gospel.

Believe God, believe His word.  Learn what God says in His word for yourself, do not be deceived into believing any lie about the gifts of the Holy Spirit.  God teaches His children the truth about Him.  You do not have to understand God to believe in God.  We must realize that "God's ways are past finding out" (Romans 11:33), this is why we are given faith (Romans 12:3).  Faith in God allows us to trust in God when our little minds cannot possible comprehend the mysteries and the power of God.   The written word of God says "lean not unto thine own understanding" concerning the ways of God; and the Scripture clearly states all believer's position on all who speak in tongues, as the Word of God says "forbid not to speak in tongues" - 1 Corinthians 14:39, these instructions from God apply to you as well as to the other children of God.  We are not God, only God sets the rules for His children; we are instructed NOT to forbid anyone to speak in tongues.  God said it, I believe it, and that settles it!

Too many men have built up for themselves their own idols of their own doctrine; and they choose to follow their man made doctrine no matter what the Bible says.  All of the Bible are the commandments of the Lord, not just those one feels comfortable with - 1 Corinthians 14:37-38.  The Word of God tells us all, that we are to avoid such men, and that we are to rebuke false doctrine, depart from, and separate ourselves from all who bring in another doctrine contrary to the Holy Word of God.

The unlearned are offended by the gifts of the Holy Spirit.  The unlearned and unbelievers are separated into their own group by the Scriptures, apart from believers who speak in tongues, apart from those who accept the written word of God in 1 Corinthians 14:23.  The Scriptures read, "if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant" - 1 Corinthians 14:38.  We are to defend the gospel, but are never to judge the unlearned and the unbelievers, who are ignorant.  When a person is explained through Scripture about the gifts of the Holy Spirit, from reading the word of God, and still chooses to remain in unbelief, we cannot persuade them to believe  but the Holy Spirit can lead them to the truth of God.  It is the Holy Spirit's job to reach deep down into the inward man and teach him the truth of God.

But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.  John 14:26

But God hath revealed them unto us by His Spirit; for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.  1 Corinthians 2:10

But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.  1 Corinthians 2:14

The Holy Spirit will NEVER give you instruction that contradicts the living Word of God.  The Holy Spirit cannot lie (Titus 1:2).  The Holy Spirit can say nothing that is not of God.  Those who profess to know the truth of God and forbid speaking in tongues are not receiving their instruction from God, because the living Word of God states that we are all to seek diligently and desire all the gifts of the Holy Spirit, and that no one is to forbid anyone from speaking in tongues - 1 Corinthians 14:1, 39.

What are we to do with our gifts?

As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.  If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen. 1 Peter 4:10-11

The gifts of God are to be shared, ministered the same one to another.  God gives us His gifts, so that we can share them with one another.

God gives us His free gifts so that in all things God the Father may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever.
