If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God. 1 John 4:20

What is Hate?

The dictionary defines hate as intense hostility and aversion usually deriving from fear, anger, or sense of injury; extreme dislike.

Abhor is a synonym of hate and is defined as to regard with extreme repugnance.

Loathsome is defined as causing intense displeasure, disgust, or resentment.

Abominable is defined as worthy of or causing disgust or hatred.  An abomination is something abominable; extreme disgust and hatred.

Hatred is defined as prejudiced hostility or animosity; a very strong dislike.

The word of God reads that  hatred is the works of the flesh and those who hate will NOT inherit the kingdom of God.

Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. Galatians 5:19-21

What does GOD say about hate?

God takes hatred toward another person very serious and we should also.

God says that we are NOT to hate anyone, not even our enemies.

God says if we hate anyone, that we do NOT love Him.

God desires that we love one another, not hate one another.

Because God is love, God desires that we love one another.   God desires that we share His love, God's love, with one another - we cannot do this when we hate one another.

Those who hate one another are in darkness.

He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even unto now. 1 John 2:9

But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whether he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes. 1 John 2:11

God says if you hate one another you are a murderer.

Whosoever hateth his brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him. 1 John 3:15

God says if you hate another, you do not love God.

If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God. 1 John 4:20

Jesus says if you hate Jesus you hate Father God.

He that hateth me hateth my Father also. John 15:23

Who are those who hate?

People who hate are scornful, despiteful, bitter, abominable, loathsome, angry, malicious, blasphemous, vengeful, contemptuous, execration, repugnant, wrath, curse, reproach, dislike and an enmity, enemy of our Lord God.

Scornful

Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. Psalm 1:1

How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? and the scorners delight in their scorning, and fools hate knowledge? Proverbs 1:22

A wise son heareth his father's instruction: but a scorner heareth not rebuke. Proverbs 13:1

A scorner seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not: but knowledge is easy unto him that understandeth. Proverbs 14:6

A scorner loveth not one that reproveth him: neither will he go unto the wise. Proverbs 15:12

The thought of foolishness is sin: and the scorner is an abomination to men. Proverbs 24:9

Despiteful

Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,  Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,  Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:  Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them. Romans 1:29-32

Bitter

Bitterness can consume us and bind us to sin.

For I perceive that thou art in the gall of bitterness, and in the bond of iniquity. Acts 8:23

People who live in sin, live in bondage to the devil.  Jesus can break the chains of bondage and make anyone free from bondage to the devil.

Like all sin, we are to run away from bitterness, get rid of it with all our might.

Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:  And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. Ephesians 4:31-32

If we diligently seek God in our life, follow peace and holiness we will not be defiled by bitterness.

Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord: Looking diligently lest any man fail of the grace of God; lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and thereby many be defiled; Hebrews 12:14-15

Without peace with ALL men and  without holiness with ALL men, NO person can see the LORD GOD, can be saved from hell.

Abominable

How much more abominable and filthy is man, which drinketh iniquity like water? Job 15:16

The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. Psalm 14:1

Who are the abominable?  People who profess, they say that they know God, they say that they are "saved", but they deny God by living in sin, they deny God by being unrighteous, they deny God by sinning on purpose, they are disobedient to the word of God, and even their good works are evil and unacceptable.

They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate. Titus 1:16

Works and how you live your life without sin, will NOT gain you salvation, but your identity, who you are is revealed by the way you live your life.  The children of God are KNOWN by their fruit, how they live their life for Christ and through Christ Jesus.

Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. Matthew 7:20

Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.  A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Matthew 7:17-19

Evil and sin does NOT come from God.  Those who are evil and live in sin are NOT God's children, but the devil's children.

The children of God live without sin and live in righteousness.

What will happen to ALL people who are abominable?  The abominable person's destiny is hell along with the fearful, unbelieving, murderers, whoremongers, sorcerers, idolaters and ALL liars.

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Revelation 21:8

What will happen to ALL people who are abominable?  The abominable person's destiny is hell along with the fearful, unbelieving, murderers, whoremongers, sorcerers, idolaters and ALL liars.

Loathsome

A loathsome person is wicked and such wickedness can overthrow a sinner.

A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame. Righteousness keepeth him that is upright in the way: but wickedness overthroweth the sinner. Proverbs 13:5-6

Angry

An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression Proverbs 29:22

Be not hasty in thy spirit to be angry: for anger resteth in the bosom of fools. Ecclesiastes 7:9

But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in danger of the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of hell fire. Matthew 5:22

But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Colossians 3:8

Malicious

But now ye also put off all these; anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy communication out of your mouth. Colossians 3:8

For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. Titus 3:3

Blasphemous

For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,  Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,  Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;  Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. 2 Timothy 3:2-5

People who live in unbelief of Jesus blaspheme.

Who was before a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and injurious: but I obtained mercy, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief. 1 Timothy 1:13

Who blasphemes the name of God?  The enemy of God.  The enemy of God is satan and his followers.

O God, how long shall the adversary reproach? shall the enemy blaspheme thy name for ever? Psalm 74:10

Remember this, that the enemy hath reproached, O LORD, and that the foolish people have blasphemed thy name. Psalm 74:18

For out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, murders, adulteries, fornications, thefts, false witness, blasphemies: Matthew 15:19

For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man. Mark 7:21-23

Vengeful

Thou shalt not avenge, nor bear any grudge against the children of thy people, but thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself: I am the LORD. Leviticus 19:18

Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Romans 12:19

Contemptuous

Let the lying lips be put to silence; which speak grievous things proudly and contemptuously against the righteous. Psalm 31:18

Wrathful

A wrathful man stirreth up strife: but he that is slow to anger appeaseth strife. Proverbs 15:18

Curse

And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Whosoever curseth his God shall bear his sin. Leviticus 24:15

Enmity, enemy of our Lord God.

Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. Romans 8:7

Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. James 4:4

Hatred hurts you

Hatred toward a person begins with a tiny thought, but like cancer that tiny thought of hate enlarges and becomes so big it takes over and penetrates your whole life.

Hatred toward a person is never alone, it works with, partners with, condemnation, judgment, vengeance, anger, which hurts you not necessarily the object of your hatred.

Too many people have hated some person that they think have wronged them for many, many years, or their whole life.  The object of their hatred, the person who they hate, have moved on and never think about you.  The person who is harmed with your hate is you, not necessarily the object of your hatred.

Hatred toward another person harms you, this is why God gives us Scripture after Scripture on love your neighbor, love your enemies, do not go to bed angry with anyone, let go of hate toward one another, for your well being, for your health, for your sake.

Hatred makes you sick.  Hatred births bitterness.  Bitterness is sorrow, vexation, deep disturbance and distress of mind.  Bitterness hurts you, not the person you hate.  Bitterness imprisons you, your thoughts, your actions, your life.  Bitterness directly affects your health, steals your joy and makes you depressed, and leads to physical distress and illness.

What does GOD hate?

Idols, any images.

Neither shalt thou set thee up any image; which the LORD thy God hateth. Deuteronomy 16:22

God hates any image and tells us NOT to setup, possess, view, or make ANY image.

For more information see - NO IDOLS

Don't bring idols into your house, hate all idols.

The graven images of their gods shall ye burn with fire: thou shalt not desire the silver or gold that is on them, nor take it unto thee, lest thou be snared therein: for it is an abomination to the LORD thy God. Neither shalt thou bring and abomination into thine house, lest thou be a cursed thing like it: but thou shalt utterly detest it, and thou shalt utterly abhor it; for it is a cursed thing. Deuteronomy 7:25,26

Ask nothing about other gods.

Take heed to thyself that thou be not snared by following them, after that they be destroyed from before thee; and that thou inquire not after their gods, saying, How did these nations serve their gods? even so will I do likewise. Thou shalt not do so unto the LORD thy God: for every abomination to the LORD, which he hateth, have they done unto their gods; for even their sons and their daughters they have burnt in the fire to their gods. Deuteronomy 12:30-31

Don't even speak the names of other gods.

God hates the wicked.

The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth. Psalm 11:5

For the wicked boasteth of his heart's desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth. Psalm 10:3

God hates those that imagine evil against anyone.

And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these things that I hate, saith the LORD. Zechariah 8:17

Workers of iniquity.

The foolish shall not stand in thy sight: thou hatest all workers of iniquity. Psalm 5:5

7 things GOD hates

  1. a proud look

  2. a lying tongue

  3. hands that shed innocent blood

  4. a heart that devises wicked imaginations

  5. feet that be swift in running to mischief

  6. a false witness that speaks lies

  7. one who brings discord among brethren

These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. Proverbs 6:16-19

Lying, unclean, deceitful man.

Thou shalt destroy them that speak leasing: the LORD will abhor the bloody and deceitful man. Psalm 5:6

(Leasing is lies, falsehood; abhor is to hate)

Is there anything GOD says we are to hate?

Hate evil

We are to hate ALL evil.

Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked. Psalm 97:10

I will set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the work of them that turn aside; it shall not cleave to me. Psalm 101:3

I have hated the congregation of evildoers; and will not sit with the wicked. Psalm 26:5

Thou lovest righteousness, and hatest wickedness: therefore God, thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows. Psalm 45:7

The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate. Proverbs 8:13

Let love be without dissimulation.  Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Romans 12:9

(Abhor means to hate).

The Scriptures go further on the subject of evil, stating that we are to abstain from all appearance of evil (1 Thessalonians 5:22).  So even if something hints at being evil we are to stay clear of it.  What can you think of that looks evil?  appears evil?  Even a child knows what looks evil and what doesn't.  Scriptures warn us to the danger of even appearing evil.  Why do you think that is?

Hate lying

A righteous man hateth lying: but a wicked man is loathsome, and cometh to shame. Proverbs 13:5

I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the LORD. Psalm 31:6

I hate and abhor lying: but thy law do I love. Psalm 119:163

There is no truth in a lie; there is no lie in the truth.

God is true and God is all about truth.  God cannot lie - Titus 1:2.

God hates lying because those who choose lying are separated from Him.

God desires us to be where He created us to be which is with Him, right now, today, tomorrow and forevermore.

Do not be deceived.  God is for us.  God knows what is best for us and God wants the best for us.  God wants us to stay clear of lying because it separates us from Him.

Hate every false way

Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way. Psalm 119:104

Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way. Psalm 119:128

People love excuses, "well, that really wasn't a lie".  Something may not be a lie, per se, but it is still wrong, it is still a "false way".  It doesn't matter, as it is the motive of the heart that God sees.

God sees everything, nothing is hid from God, not even our motives.  God hates every false way.

Hate covetousness

The prince that wanteth understand is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days. Proverbs 28:16

We obey God because we love God (John 14:15), never to get something from God (like long life).  "Thou shalt not covet" is one of the original ten commandments given to mankind from God - Exodus 20:17.  All the commandments of God stand firm and are valid today.

Hate the worldly life

He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal. John 12:25

The Scriptures are strict with this point, only those who surrender all of themselves for Christ can be with Him into eternal life.

Believers of Jesus are separated to Him, not this world.  There is nothing in this world that holds the heart of the faithful believer.

This world is not our home, nothing has a hold on us here.  We brought nothing into this world and we will take nothing from it out - 1 Timothy 6:7.  Our treasure is in Heaven, with our King, with our God, in His Kingdom, in Him - Matthew 6:19-21.

Believers are NOT of the world

If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. John 15:19

Hate vain thoughts

SAMECH. I hate vain thoughts: but thy law do I love. Psalm 119:113

Hate your enemy no more

Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; Matthew 5:43-44
