And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.  1 John 4:16

Love Facts:

Love Facts:

  • God is love.  The opposite of love is the opposite of God.

  • God loves you.  No one is excluded from God's love.

  • We must love on purpose.  You make the choice to love or hate.

  • We are to love God first - above everyone and everythingLoving anything above God is idolatry.

  • We are to love God with our whole being - our whole heart, soul, spirit and mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment of all.

  • We are to love everyone.  This is the second greatest commandment from God.

  • We are nothing without love.  Because God is love we are nothing without God's love.

  • Love endures all things.

Love is not an option with God for God is love.  We can only know God through His love, without love we cannot know God (1 John 4:8).  Understanding God is through understanding love - His love.

Where does love come from?

Love is a gift to us from God.

God is love.  (Love is NOT God).  Love comes from God.  God is the source of all true genuine love.

God is the source from which all love flows.

Love is because of God and without God there would not be any love.

Love is eternal

God is love and God is eternal, and therefore love is eternal.

There has never been a time where God did not exist.  God has always been.  God is love and love has existed with God before time began.

Love has always existed and will continue to exist throughout eternity.  God has no beginning or end, neither does love.  Love is not God, but God is love.  Love cannot exist without God.

Without God there is no love.  Those who choose to live without God in their lives here on earth, choose eternity without God also.

Choosing an eternity without God is choosing eternity without love, because God is love.

As human beings, we have never truly lived without love.  Even those who choose now not to love, not to live in love, not to give love, and not to receive love, still have a choice to change and receive love before they die.

After we die, there is no choice (Psalm 6:5, 31:17; 88:5).  The decisions we make while we are alive, here on this earth, determine our destiny for eternity.

We will either live with God and His love for eternity in the kingdom of Heaven, or be separated from God and without God and His love for all eternity.  The choice is ours alone while we are alive here on earth.

I can't imagine what this world would be like without God's love, I can't imagine living eternity without the love of God, without giving love or receiving love for eternity.  How horrible that would be!

Salvation, the gift of God, opens the door to the path to God and His eternal kingdom.  Without accepting His free gift of salvation by grace through faith, no one will see Him.

Love is a gift from God

When we receive God's free gift of salvation, God gives us the spirit of love.

For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power and of love, and of a sound mind.  2 Timothy 1:7

God gives His children:

  • the spirit of power
  • the spirit of love
  • a sound mind

There is no fear in Love

Fear is not of God, fear is of the devil.  God's love casts out fear.

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.  1 John 4:18

Salvation gives the children of God perfect love that casts out all fear.

What can love do?

God's love gives us eternal life

Without God's gracious love, love so abundant that He would give His only begotten Son as a sacrifice for the sins of the world, we would not be able to receive salvation and receive eternal, everlasting life.

For God so loved the world, that he gave is only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  John 3:16

Love covereth all sins

Hatred stirreth up strifes: but love covereth all sinsProverbs 10:12

Perfect Love casts out fear

There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.  1 John 4:18

Is there anything we shouldn’t love?

Love not the world

Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world.  If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.  1 John 2:15

Hate lying

I hate and abhor lying: but thy law do I love.  Psalm 119:163

Every false way

Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false wayPsalm 119:104

Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false wayPsalm 119:128

Evil thoughts

And let none of you imagine evil in your hearts against his neighbour; and love no false oath: for all these are things that I hate, saith the LORD.  Zechariah 8:17

Vain thoughts

SAMECH. I hate vain thoughts: but thy law do I love.  Psalm 119:113

What is vanity?  The best explanation of vanity can be found in the book of Ecclesiastes.

Hate evil

Ye that love the LORD, hate evil: he preserveth the souls of his saints; he delivereth them out of the hand of the wicked.  Psalm 97:10

The fear of the LORD is to hate evil: pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.  Proverbs 8:13

Let love be with dissimulation.  Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.  Romans 12:9

Hate iniquity

Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows.  Hebrews 1:9

Who can separate us from the love of God?

Nothing can separate us from the love of God.

Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?  Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?  As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.  Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.  For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.  Romans 8:35-39
