Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you. Luke 6:28

But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;  That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. Matthew 5:44-45

Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee. Psalm 122:6

And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers. Acts 2:42

What is a Prayer List?

A prayer list is simply a list of people and things that we want to pray about and who we want to pray for.

During our prayer time each day, sometimes we may forget all that we need to pray.  Having a prayer list can help us remember.

Our prayers our extremely important to God. 

God waits patiently every single day to hear from each of us. 

God never sleeps.  God is never too busy.  God is available 24/7 to hear from His children.

Sometimes with our busy lives we can forget those who we need to talk with God about.  By simply having a prayer list, we are able to remind ourselves, who we need to include in our daily prayers.


Who should be on our Prayer List?

Who and what you choose to pray for is up to you.  Your prayer life is between you and your personal Saviour.

The following is a list of who and what is important to pray.

  • The Lord God Almighty - Thank God for all His wondrous works - Thank God for His salvation through His Son, Jesus Christ. - Thank God for hearing my prayers - Thank God for His everlasting love, His wonderful grace, and His enduring mercy  
  • Ourselves  
  • Forgiveness

The Lord God Almighty

"Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name" is part of the Lord's prayer, given to all people by the Son of God as to how people should pray (Matthew 6:9).

Sometimes we get so busy in our lives, and so hurried in our prayers that we forget to honor who is most important, our Heavenly Father, our Creator and Holy God, our Lord and Saviour.

We are to pray to God the Father and rejoice that His name is Hallowed and Holy above all things.

Everything is His, everything He gives us is His, we are His, everything we are is because of Him.  God holds everything in His powerful Hands.

"For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen" (Matthew 6:13)

God is the kingdom, and God is the power, and God is the glory forever.

I praise and thank the Creator of the universe, my Lord God Almighty for saving me, for delivering me, for rescuing me, for giving me His most precious gift, His Son, Jesus to die for my sins, who forgave all my sins, so I would NOT perish, so I could receive everlasting life.

I am so grateful for the grace and mercy of God, who gives me strength, who helps me up when I fall, who heals my broken heart, who gives me joy in a world of pain, who keeps me save and sane, who never gave up on me, and who is always there to hold me in His loving arms.

O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out! Romans 11:33

I thank God for all the wonderful gifts that He has given me in my life, I am so grateful for everything that He thought I was worthy of receiving. 

The love that I have been given by Him, has exceeded all my expectations.  The love that I have from my Lord and Saviour is overwhelming at times, and to think that He has so much more for me when I see Him in Heaven is unimaginable.

But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. 1 Corinthians 2:9

We must not forget to praise God for hearing our prayers.

The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. Psalm 34:17



Sometimes I think we get so busy praying for other people in our lives, that we forget to pray for ourselves.

Give us this day our daily bread. Matthew 6:11

We are to ask God for our daily needs, such as food to eat and all the other necessities of life. 

We need to pray for strength and patience and guidance, NOT only to know the will of God but to do the will of God.

We need to pray for our own health and safety. 

We need to pray for protection and deliverance from evil that is all around us in our daily lives.

And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil Matthew 6:13

We are kept from evil temptation only by the grace of God.

We need to ask God to show us how we can serve Christ best every day.

We need to pray and ask Jesus to help us maintain good works.

This is a faithful saying, and these things I will that thou affirm constantly, that they which have believed in God might be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men. Titus 3:8

I have no way of knowing what you need in your life.

What do you need in your life?  Don't just tell your friends, tell God, ask God to help you with what you need in your life.  God the Creator of the universe wants to give you, and all His children, everything we need and much more.

Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Ephesians 3:20

God is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think.


Pray for the LORD's teaching

We all want to be effective ambassadors for Christ, in all that we say and do in our life, we must show others the love of Christ Jesus.

We need to pray and ask God to cause us to understand when we err, cause us to hear His loving kindness, cause us to know His way, cause us to hear His voice.

Teach me, and I will hold my tongue: and cause me to understand wherein I have erred. Job 6:24

Deliver me in thy righteousness, and cause me to escape: incline thine ear unto me, and save me. Psalm 71:2

Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee. Psalm 143:8

Thou that dwellest in the gardens, the companions hearken to thy voice: cause me to hear it. Solomon 8:13

We must diligently seek to know God better every day.  We need to pray and ask Christ to teach us in His right ways.

Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day. Psalm 25:4-5

Good and upright is the LORD: therefore will he teach sinners in the way. The meek will he guide in judgment: and the meek will he teach his way. What man is he that feareth the LORD? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose. Psalm 25:8-9,12

Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name. Psalm 86:11

Teach me good judgment and knowledge: for I have believed thy commandments. Psalm 119:66

Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness. Psalm 143:10


Wisdom and knowledge comes from God above, we must pray and ask for wisdom and knowledge, to bring glory to God.

Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding; If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures; Then shalt thou understand the fear of the LORD, and find the knowledge of God. For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. Proverbs 2:3-6


We are not born with wisdom and knowledge, we are to grow in grace and grow in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

When we answer God's call to salvation, we receive the truth and knowledge of Jesus Christ.  Salvation is NOT the end, it is the beginning of life, we are not to stop receiving the truth and knowledge of God, after we are saved, but we are to continue to grow in the knowledge of God.

But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen. 2 Peter 3:18

According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue:  Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. 2 Peter 1:3-4

You must be saved, by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, in order to obtain the knowledge of the truth from God.

Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. 1 Timothy 2:4

The knowledge of the truth of God cannot be purchased with money, or learned by any means by ourselves, or learned from any mortal man.  The knowledge of the truth of God comes from God Himself, when we are born again, when it is written on the fleshy tables of our heart by God.

We need to pray to be filled with the knowledge of God's will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding.

For this cause we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to desire that ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; That ye might walk worthy of the Lord unto all pleasing, being fruitful in every good work, and increasing in the knowledge of God; Colossians 1:9-10  

The knowledge of God does not end for us after we are saved, we are to continually grow in the knowledge of God, diligently seeking God all the days of our lives.  God is alive, the word of God is alive, we could never know all there is to know about God within our short life spans.  True riches and treasure are in the knowledge of God alone, all His ways are truly past finding out.

O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! how unsearchable are his judgments, and his ways past finding out!  For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen. Romans 11:33,36



And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. Matthew 6:12

Forgiveness is not an option with God.  Forgiveness is required from our Lord God.  Forgiveness is extremely important to God, and therefore should also be very important to us.

We must ask for forgiveness of our sins from our Lord and Saviour, with whole hearted godly sorrow and repentance.

We must forgive others for all things.  We can forgive others because Christ forgives us.

Forbearing one another, and forgiving one another, if any man have a quarrel against any: even as Christ forgave you, so also do ye. Colossians 3:13

As Christ forgives our sins, we must also forgive others.  We must forgive all people for all things. 

Forgiveness is very serious.  The word of God tells us, that if we do NOT forgive all people for all things, that He will NOT forgive us.

For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Matthew 6:14-15

Without forgiveness of our sins, we cannot be known by God, we cannot inherit the kingdom of God, we cannot become the children of God.

We must forgive all people, for all things, who trespass against us.

Our family

I am so thankful to God for ALL of my family.  Our families are a very special and unique gift straight from God.

We must pray fervently for all of our family.  Pray for their safety and their health. Pray for those who are sick to be healed.

Pray especially for those in your family who are lost, that God will convict their hearts, that they realize that they need God and will receive salvation, no matter what it takes.

It is extremely hard to think about any person, that is in our family, who is lost, who is NOT saved, because we know that person will NOT spend eternity in Heaven with us.

We must earnestly make it a priority to constantly pray that their souls will be saved by the grace of God, before it is too late for them.

Pray that God will shake up their lives to the point where they know that they need the redeeming blood of Jesus, to wash away their sins and be their personal Lord and Saviour.

Pray that their life will NOT be taken away, until they make the decision to accept God, accept Christ into their hearts.


Our friends

If we are lucky enough to have special friends in our lives, we must thank God for giving them to us.

We need to pray for our friends when they are ill and when they are well.

Our friends sometimes become closer than our family, we need to cherish and love them as our family.

If our friends are lost, have not received salvation, we must constantly pray that God will convict their hearts, to turn their life from sin to salvation, from serving satan to serving Christ, from death to life everlasting.  We must pray for the salvation of their souls and for God to change their lives, no matter what it takes.


Our country and world

Especially in times like today, we must pray every day for our country, our nation, and the world.

We must pray to our God for peace and the end to wars.

The word of God tells us in the last days that nation shall rise up against nation, that there will be wars and rumors of wars.

For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. Matthew 24:7

This is where we are today, in war.  We must keep our nation in front of God every day through prayer.

Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance. Psalm 33:12

Our country, our nation is only truly free when God is their LORD. 


Our government leaders

We must pray for all our government leaders, whether we believe in their politics or not.  All our elected officials need our prayers.  Whether or not we believe in their beliefs, they are the leaders of our government.  God can change anyone. 

We believe in God, so we must pray that God will give them the leadership that they need to make the right decisions regarding our country.

There has never been a time in history, like today, we must pray for God's directions with all governments around this world.


Our church family

We need to pray for our church home, the place where we worship, and for its leaders and family.

More than ever, every believer must pray and ask God to strengthen and build our church home and family.

We must pray for our pastor, our spiritual leaders, to be guided by God, so that they may teach the word of God and do the will of God.

We need to pray for our pastor's family, to keep them safe and healthy, for God to give them the strength and guidance that is required to do the will of God and to meet their needs, physically, financially, and spiritually.

How powerful and meaningful through Christ, is the pastor who has his whole congregation praying for him.  


The lost to be saved

We must pray every day for all the lost people of the world. 

The lost are ALL people who have NOT made Jesus Christ their personal Lord and Saviour. 

We need to pray every day for the lost people of the world, whose destiny is to spend eternity separated from God.

I don't know anyone who does not know someone who is lost, separated from God, lost to the devil, destined for an eternity in hell.

Our prayer for the lost should be one of our highest priorities.

We must pray to Jesus and ask Him for the words to say to our lost friends and to the lost people we meet every day.  Pray that our light from Christ will shine through us and people will ask for the reason of the hope that is in us.

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Matthew 5:16

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: 1 Peter 3:15

The return of Christ Jesus

Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Matthew 6:10

"Thy kingdom come" is part of the Lord's Prayer that we pray, but do we really comprehend its meaning.

"Thy kingdom come" is praying for the quick return of Christ Jesus, as He promised to return with His kingdom to receive all of His own to Him. 

We are to be praying, watching and waiting for the kingdom of God to come and take all believers home to our Father God above in Heaven.

Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning: Mark 13:35

No one on this earth knows when Jesus will return.  It could be tomorrow, it could be today, it could be right this second while I am typing this.

We, as children of God, are to be always ready for the return of Christ.

We are to be praying for the return of Jesus, watching and waiting patiently.

The will of God to be done

"Thy will be done" is part of the Lord's prayer, that we learned as children. 

We are instructed by Jesus, in the Lord's pray, to pray that God's will be done, above our own will and above all else.


"Thy will be done in my life".

We cannot see the whole picture of our lives, but God does.  God knows our future, God has made wonderful plans for our lives.  Many times we cannot see past a problem, trouble, a difficult situation, we cannot see past the current pain in our lives, we cannot see how our situation will ever change. 

No matter what our current situation is, no matter what distress or pain we are facing today, no matter how hopeless our situation seems to us, we must never give up trusting in our Lord God.  Our faith in God must endure.  God knows our troubles and better yet, He knows how to get us out of them.

God's plan for our life is perfect, all we need to do is trust in Him, and wait on Him to finish His work in our lives. 

God is always on time with the perfect solution to our problem or situation.  We must learn to be patient and wait on the Lord for His perfect plan to be revealed to us.

We may not be able to see past our problems, but God can.  We must have faith in God, we must trust the Lord with all of our life, we must know that God's plan, God's will for our life is better than we can ever imagine.

We need to pray for patience to wait on the Lord's plan for our lives, to sincerely mean it when we pray, "thy will be done" in my life.


"Thy will be done in earth"

We need to pray that the will of God be done all throughout all of this earth, with the lives of all the people of this world.

The will of God is for all people everywhere in this wide world be saved, obtain salvation.  God does not want any person, any where on this planet to perish.  God's will is for all people to receive everlasting life, through faith in His Son, Jesus Christ.

For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, 1 Thessalonians 5:9

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16


The missionaries around the world

Believers in Christ Jesus who have become missionaries around the world, teaching others the love of Jesus, sharing their lives with people around the globe, sharing the gospel of Christ, assisting others in how to receive the gift of God, which is salvation, teaching them how to receive eternal life through faith in Jesus Christ by the grace of God, need our prayers.

Some missionaries are in great danger for telling the lost about our Lord God Jesus Christ.  Some missionaries never return home, they are murdered in strange lands.

We also need to pray for the people who receive salvation, while these missionaries are in their lands.  Pray that they will continue in faith in the Lord, when the missionaries leave them.  Pray for their safety, because some may be threatened by others, because of their new belief in Jesus Christ.  We must pray that they will continue their journey with Christ Jesus.

We need to pray for the safety of the missionaries and their congregations, that God will keep them safe and away from harm, keep evil out of their lives.


The poor, the fatherless and the widowed

Pray for the orphaned children around this world.

Jesus tells us that we are not to forget the poor, the fatherless, and the widowed.  This includes all people who have no one to care for them, no one to look out for them, no one to love them.

Do you pray for the homeless in your town?  The sick in hospitals?  The elderly in nursing homes with no family to care for them?

Jesus sought out the homeless, the poor, the fatherless, the widowed, all who had no one to care for them, and gave them love, gave them hope, gave them salvation.

We are never to forget about the less fortunate people of our society.  We may not be able to feed them all, but we can sure pray for them all.

We should pray for the homeless, the fatherless children, the widowed, and the poor in our town, in our state, in the world, who need comfort, hope and help from our Lord God.


How do I pray for the lost?


First let's understand who are the lost.

The word of God reads unbelievers of Christ Jesus are lost and will NOT see the kingdom of God.

But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. 2 Corinthians 4:3-4

The lost of the world are blind to the truth and believe NOT the gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine in them.

The word of God was written so that we might believe that Jesus is the Christ the Son of God, and that by believing we could have everlasting life through the name of Jesus.

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. John 20:31

The lost do NOT continue in the will of God.  Just because a person says that they are a "Christian" or says that "they are saved", doesn't mean necessarily that they are saved.  "They profess that they know God, but deny Him, being abominable and disobedient".  God says that those who DO the will of God are His children, not just the ones who say it.

Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 7:21

And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever. 1 John 2:17

They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate. Titus 1:16

The lost continue in sin and the lusts of the flesh and are unrighteous.   We know through the word of God that ALL unrighteousness is sin and that unrighteousness will NOT enter the kingdom of God.

All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death. 1 John 5:17

And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. 2 Thessalonians 2:10

Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God?  Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

The saved, all people who believe in Christ Jesus are born of Him, abide in Christ, and live righteously.

And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming.  If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him. 1 John 2:28-29

The lost, who are the children of the devil, are unrighteous and are NOT of God.

Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. 1 John 3:9-10

The lost have NOT confessed and repented of sin, the lost follow evil and do evil, the lost do NOT know God.

Beloved, follow not that which is evil, but that which is good. He that doeth good is of God: but he that doeth evil hath not seen God. 3 John 1:11

Who are the lost?  All people who do NOT have Christ abiding in them, all people who live in sin and unrighteousness. 

The lost of the world, live for the world, love the sin and lust of the world.

The lost are blind to the truth and do NOT know God.

The lost have NOT admitted they are sinners.  The lost have NOT confessed and repented of sin, turned from their sin.

The lost of the world deny Christ Jesus is Lord God, the only begotten Son of God.

They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate. Titus 1:16

Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. Matthew 16:24

But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 10:32

For there are certain men crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ. Jude 1:4

The lost have NOT asked Jesus to come into their life and be their personal Lord and Saviour.  The lost have NOT surrendered all of their life to Christ.

The lost are all people who do NOT have a current personal relationship with Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

The lost are all people who do NOT live in the will of God, who do NOT serve Christ Jesus.


Prayer for the lost by name:

Dear Father God in Heaven, I praise Your Holy name.  Thank You for Your saving grace and sweet mercy.  I thank You for my salvation and eternal life. I love you God.  I ask You Lord to save my lost relatives and my lost friends <list them by name>.  I ask You Jesus to save ALL the lost people of the world.  No matter what it takes, no matter what the cost; I pray that You will turn their lives around, so they can receive everlasting salvation and eternal life. I do NOT want anyone to perish and be separated from YOU, Lord God, for eternity. Jesus help me to help you to help them.  Guide me daily to do Your perfect will.  Jesus, shine through me and let me be a guiding light for them to You. I pray this in the name of my Saviour and LORD God Jesus Christ. Amen.
