The Purpose of JESUS

This is a Bible study on the Purpose of JESUS.     Click here for a printable Bible Study Guide.

For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. John 6:38,40

For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. Luke 19:10

And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. John 12:47

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. John 10:10

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. John 20:31

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. Matthew 5:17

He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:8

And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.    I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Luke 5:31-32

What is the purpose of Jesus?

The word of God specifically, clearly and lovingly defines the purpose of Jesus.

We know that Jesus is the Christ and Jesus is the only begotten Son of God and we know that Jesus Christ was manifested in the flesh, in the likeness of man, and came forth from God on purpose to seek and to save the lost people in the world, and to destroy the works of the devil, and to fulfill the word of God.

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. John 20:31

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. John 3:16-18

Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. John 8:42

And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifest in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen of angels, preached unto the Gentiles, believed on in the world, received up into glory. 1 Timothy 3:16

For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. Luke 19:10

Jesus is God's full revelation of Himself to humanity.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him. John 14:6-7

Jesus tells us if we know Him, that we know His Father.  Jesus and His Father are one.  God the Father and God the Son are one God.

One of Jesus' disciples asked Jesus to show him the Father.  Jesus says to him, "I have been with you all this time and you still don't know who I am?"  Then Jesus tells him, "Anyone who has seen me, has seen the Father", "How can you say Show me the Father?"

Jesus said, "Don't you believe that I am IN the Father and the Father IN me? Everything that I say is NOT from me, but from the Father that dwells IN me, He does all these works, everything that I do, He does through ME."

Jesus said, "Believe me that I AM IN the Father and the Father is IN ME, or else believe me for the very works' sake."

Philip saith unto him, Lord, shew us the Father, and it sufficeth us.  Jesus saith unto him, Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Shew us the Father? Believest thou not that I am in the Father, and the Father in me? the words that I speak unto you I speak not of myself: but the Father that dwelleth in me, he doeth the works. Believe me that I am in the Father, and the Father in me: or else believe me for the very works' sake. John 14:10-11

Jesus is Father and Son, one God.

For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. Isaiah 9:6

Jesus Christ the Son of God and God the Father are one God.

I and my Father are one. John 10:30

Jesus, who is God the Son and His Father God are one God.

We can ONLY know God the Father through Jesus.  No one can know God the Father without knowing Jesus, the Son.  You cannot have one without the other, because they are ONE.

All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him. Matthew 11:27

Jesus is the love of God

Jesus is God's love toward us 'manifested'.

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins. 1 John 4:9-10

God showed how much He loves ALL of us in this world, by giving us His most precious gift, His only begotten Son, Jesus, the Son of God.

Only through Jesus, the Son of God, could we be forgiven of our lustful, sinful lives.

Only through the grace and mercy of God, through the living sacrifice of His Son, the death and resurrection of Jesus, could we be cleansed inside, washed and renewed, regenerated, made whole and worthy of inheritance into the Kingdom of God.

Only through Jesus Christ can we see God, know God and spend eternity with God.

God says that we must all go through His Son, Jesus, to see Him, Father God.  Jesus said, "NO ONE comes to the Father except through me".

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6

Jesus is Salvation

There is salvation in only one name - Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. Acts 4:12

Jesus came to save the world from sin and death.

And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. Luke 24:47

But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: John 1:12

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name. John 20:31

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:13

But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they. Acts 15:11

And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. Acts 16:31

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. Romans 10:9

And if any man hear my words, and believe not, I judge him not: for I came not to judge the world, but to save the world. John 12:47

Jesus came to save the lost of the world.

For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. Matthew 18:11

For the Son of man is not come to destroy men's lives, but to save them. And they went to another village. Luke 9:56

For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost. Luke 19:10

The purpose of Jesus was do destroy the works of the devil; to put away sin

For then must he often have suffered since the foundation of the world: but now once in the end of the world hath he appeared to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. Hebrews 9:26

He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 1 John 3:8

Only Jesus Christ can forgive sins.

Only God can forgive man of sins.  JESUS can save people from their sins.  Jesus can wash away the sins of any man.  Jesus Christ gives anyone remission of their sins.  Jesus Christ can forgive anyone of all their sins.  No other person in the world can forgive anyone of their sins, only God forgives sin and saves.

And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Matthew 1:21

To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. Acts 10:43

And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:11

Jesus is the ONLY advocate, mediator between God and humankind.

There is ONLY ONE advocate between any human being and God and that ONE is Jesus Christ the Son of God.

No saint, no pastor, no priest, no bishop, no person can forgive any person of their sins, only God can forgive anyone of their sins.

There is ONLY ONE mediator between God and humankind Jesus Christ.

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2:1-2

For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time. 1 Timothy 2:5-6

Jesus Christ is the living sacrifice offered to God, once and for all people, for the sins of the world.  No one else can take away our sins, except Jesus Christ.

And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: Hebrews 10:11

If any person has told you that they have forgiven you of your sins, God says that person is a liar.  Only God can forgive man of sin, no one else.

There is only ONE mediator between humankind and God, Christ Jesus, the Son of God, the Son of man, the Amen, the Alpha and Omega, the Prince of Peace, the Wonderful, the eternal King, the Lord of Lords, the King of Kings.

Jesus is the ONLY way to God

No other person or thing can take anyone to God.  Only Jesus Christ can take anyone to God.

These people and things CANNOT take you to God:

  • Your mother or any other relative
  • A pastor, a priest, a bishop, a deacon, a teacher, a preacher, or any other religious leader
  • Praying to a statue or image of anything or anyone
  • Praying to anyone other than Jesus and God the Father
  • Belonging to or going to a church or organization
  • Calling Jesus or God the Father by a certain name
  • Calling yourself a certain name
  • Chanting, or having someone pray for you, or over you
  • Repeating a prayer
  • Sacrificing
  • Doing charitable works, or good works, or any type of works you do
  • Claiming you are saved in words, but not obeying and following Jesus Christ

ALL human beings want to go to Heaven when they die.  No one wants to go to Hell.  It doesn't matter what  people may say.

Because we are all born into sin, no one can be with God with their sins. Sin cannot be with God, sin cannot enter into the presence of God.

All our sins must be purged, removed before we can be with God.  This was the purpose of Jesus coming to earth, to purge all the world of their sins.

Jesus cleanses anyone who asks Him Jesus purifies, renews and makes us worthy to be with God in His Kingdom.  Through Jesus we can be with God the Father.

Through the works that Christ Jesus did, we are made perfect through Christ, enabling us to inherit the Kingdom of God, to be with God for eternity, to receive eternal life.

Only because of the works of Christ Jesus can anyone see God.

No one is saved by their own works.  God would not accept our own works for salvation.  Only through the works of Christ Jesus is anyone ever saved.

Jesus is the ONLY ONE who can make us acceptable to God, because Jesus put on the sins of the world, He took the punishment for our sins, through His death, and resurrected to life everlasting in order that we could receive remission of our sins and receive life everlasting.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:6

No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day. John 6:44

Believers of Christ, the saved, do good works because of salvation given to us, not to gain salvation.

We serve God because of salvation, not to receive it.  If we could receive salvation by service to God, then salvation would not be the gift of God.  The grace of God would be of no effect, if salvation could be earned.  And what would be an acceptable price for salvation from us?  We are not worthy to receive salvation, nothing we have is acceptable to God for sacrifice to Him.

Only the pure, sinless sacrifice, offering of His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, was an acceptable and worthy sacrifice for all the sins of all the world.

We are saved by the grace of God through faith in God, nothing else saves us.  Faith in God is our salvation, nothing else is required by God for salvation.

We serve God because of His salvation gift to us.  We all freely given salvation through our faith in God, nothing else.

We are saved by the grace of God through faith in God.

If we were saved by our own works, our own service to God, then the grace of God would be of no effect, meaningless.  God forbid such false doctrine.

We receive salvation by believing in what God has already done - He already purchased our salvation by His blood on His cross.  Our faith in Christ Jesus to salvation is not a response to get God to do something, but faith in what God has already done - our salvation was completely bought and paid for in full before we were even born.  Nothing else can be added to the work that Christ did to ransom all of mankind forever, Jesus made a way for every person ever born to receive the salvation of God without doing anything.

Jesus is Eternal Life

Only through believing in Jesus can anyone receive eternal life

Life is ONLY in Jesus.

That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. John 3:15

Jesus Christ came forth from God, manifested in the flesh, in order to live among us humans.  Jesus gave His life for us, He accepted death for our sins, and was resurrected from death, in order to give us abundant and everlasting life.

Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. John 8:42

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. John 10:10

Abundant Life is ETERNAL LIFE through Jesus Christ.

Life in abundance is eternal life.  Life WITHOUT death or fear of death.  Life and much, much more.

Life is NOT the abundance of 'things' we possess.

And he said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. Luke 12:15

Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it. Luke 17:33

Whosoever believes in Jesus will NOT perish, but have everlasting LIFE.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16

Only by believing in Jesus, can anyone receive everlasting life.

He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. John 3:36

Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life. I am that bread of life. John 6:47-48

Jesus is the bread of Life, which came from heaven, to give life to the world, life to all who believe on Him.

For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. John 6:33

And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst. John 6:35

This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die.  I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. John 6:50-51

If we follow Jesus Christ we will receive eternal life.  Only when we give our life to Jesus, will we receive eternal life.

My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. John 10:27-28

He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.  If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will my Father honour. John 12:26

Because Jesus was resurrected from death, if we believe in Jesus, we too will live after our death.

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this? John 11:25-26

Jesus Christ holds the keys to heaven and hell.

I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death. Revelation 1:18

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell. Matthew 10:28

Whosoever therefore shall confess me before men, him will I confess also before my Father which is in heaven.  But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven. Matthew 10:32-33

And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Matthew 28:18

Jesus came to call ALL sinners to repentance.

When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Mark 2:17

And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick.  I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Luke 5:31-32

The purpose of Jesus is to do the will of God the Father

For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me. And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.  And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day. John 6:38-40

Jesus came to the world to save sinners.

This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. 1 Timothy 1:15

Who was the purpose of Jesus directed at, who did Jesus come to earth for?

The purpose of Jesus coming to this earth was you.

The purpose of Jesus was you - and is you.

The reason of Jesus coming to this earth is you

We - you, me, all people - were always in the equation, in the purpose of Jesus - we were His purpose - we were His reason - you are His purpose.

Mankind all men and all women of this earth were always the reason, the purpose of Jesus.

God was manifest in the flesh - Jesus - came to earth to rescue you and set you free from sin and death - to make a way for you to inherit the blessings of God - to make you a way to be with God now, today and for all eternity (1 Timothy 3:16; John 6:38, 51; 8:36; Colossians 3:24; 1 Peter 1:4; Romans 8:2).

Every person on this planet was the purpose of Jesus coming to this earth.  Every person on this planet was the reason for Christ Jesus coming to this earth.  Jesus came for all of us, not some of us, but for all mankind.

Every person was worth it all.  Each of us has great value in the eyes of God.  No one is worthless to God.  God created each of us with a divine purpose to be fulfilled.  We all have a purpose inside the Kingdom of God, a purpose a duty that only we can do for God because He created us each uniquely individual for His purpose, for His glory, for His Kingdom.

The message that was the purpose of Jesus coming to earth is the same message that He gives us today.

God is love.  God showed His love by giving Himself as a sinless, selfless, holy sacrifice for all the people on this planet, so that we could receive eternal life with God forever.

The gospel of Christ is the message of love, forgiveness, redemption, repentance, mercy, faith, grace, salvation, comfort, peace and hope.

The message of Jesus is to shout to the world that Jesus saves, that God loves us - each and every one of us - and that God desires us to be where He created us to be, which is with Him now and for all eternity.

Through the salvation of God we can receive all spiritual blessings from God - an abundant and full life, unbelievable love, everlasting peace, overwhelming happiness, unspeakable joy, eternal comfort, everlasting healing, release from bondage to sin and death forever, everlasting hope, and inheritance into the Kingdom of God to live forever in the presence of our Lord and Savior, with Him - with God forevermore.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ:  Ephesians 1:3

Yes, Jesus fulfilled His purpose.  The purpose of Jesus was to fulfill the will of God.  The will of God was to make a way for mankind out of sin and death.

Jesus fulfilled the will of God as He made a way for all mankind to be reconciled to God forever, to be set free from sin forever, to be given eternal life - escape from death forever.

Jesus made a way for all people to be forgiven, to be reconciled, to be justified, to be saved and to live forever with God.

The work that Jesus came to this earth to accomplish was finished on His cross.  All the work required by God for our salvation was completed, paid in full, fully and completely finished - once for all - on the cross of Jesus (Hebrews 10:10).

When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.  John 19:30

Some events in the Bible are yet to be fulfilled.  God promises that all of His Holy Word will be fulfilled, will be all completed.  All of God's word to be fulfilled in the near future will also be fulfilled.  "Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled" - Matthew 5:18.

Ephesians 1
