Religion

This is a Bible study on Religion.    Click here for a printable Bible Study Guide.

Jesus did NOT die to give us a "religion" -  Jesus died to give us a living, saving, current, active relationship with God.

If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.  Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.  James 1:26-27

God desires a personal relationship with mankind - not a religion.

Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  Matthew 11:28

We were created to love and worship God - we were NOT created to worship a religion.

Religion is NOT God.  Too many people confuse religion with God.  Even today many people think that religion and God are one in the same.  Too many people have faith in their religion, instead of faith in God alone to save them and make them whole.  God is sufficient, not religion.  God is all in all, not religion.  God saves people, none else.  Religion cannot save anyone.  God gives us faith, not religion. Faith comes from God, not religion.  God gives people salvation, not religion.  The gift of God is salvation, not religion.  God does not give people religion; God gives people His salvation, by His grace alone through faith in Him alone.  God desires all people to have a relationship with Him, not a religion.  God says we must come to Him through Jesus Christ, not through any religion.

God desires a relationship with us, not a religion with us.  Salvation is not religion.

God is NOT religion.  The word of God states that religion is not required to receive the salvation of God.  The word of God states that religion is not required to have faith in God.  The word of God states that religion is not required to have a saving relationship with God.

Please, DO NOT BE DECEIVED religion is NOT God and religion cannot save you.

12 Truths about Religion

  12 Truths about Religion

1.      Religion is NOT God.  Having religion is NOT having God.  We know God through our spirit, not religion. Knowing a religion is NOT knowing God.   Having a religion is NOT having God in your heart.  Too many people confuse God with religion.  God said Himself that He is not buildings, temples, churches, religions, made by the hands of men, but God is love and lives in the hearts of all who believe in His Son to salvation.

2.      Religion is a belief system, not necessarily based on the truth of the one true living God (Matthew 7:15, 15:9, 24:11, 24; Mark 7:7, 13:22; Titus 1:11; 2 Corinthians 11:13; 2 Peter 2:1; 1 John 4:1).

3.      Religion is not faith.  Religion is not required by God.  Faith in God is required by God.  God saves, not religion.  Unbelief in God separates anyone from God, not unbelief in a certain religion.

4.      God saves people.  Religion has not, cannot, does not, and will not save anyone, because only God saves.  We are saved by the grace of God, not religion.

5.      All religions do NOT lead to God.  God says that many false prophets are in this world spreading lies.

6.      Religion is not the will of God.  The will of God is for all men to obtain salvation through Christ Jesus.  God never said that we must get religion, but God said we must be saved.  God wants a relationship with all His children, not a religion with His people.

7.      All religions are not based on the Word of God, even if they say that they are.  All religions are NOT of God.

8.      A religion is false when it adds to or takes away from the Word of God.  God says that any contradiction with His Word, the word of God, voids that religion.

9.      Our sufficiency is of God - not religion.  God is our salvation, our strength, and our hope; salvation is not any religion. Placing anything above God - even religion - is idolatry.

10.    Religion cannot sustain anyone.  Religion cannot give anyone eternal life. Jesus Christ is eternal life; God alone sustains our life (Psalm 3:5).

11.   There is one doctrine, one gospel, one Faith, one Body, one Spirit, one Hope, one way, one Lord Father God Almighty Jehovah, one church, one baptism, one truth, one life, and all are in One Christ Jesus - who is in all, through all, above all, and who is all in all (Ephesians 4:6; 1:23).

12.   The doctrine of God which is the gospel of Christ is greater than any religion of man. God says that we are to adorn the doctrine of God our Saviour; we are not to adorn the religion of man. There is only one doctrine of God - the gospel of Christ Jesus - which worketh all in all (1 Corinthians 12:6).

What is religion?

The dictionary defines religion as the service and worship of God or the supernatural; commitment or devotion to religions faith or observance; a personal set or institutionalized system of religious attitudes, beliefs, and practices; scrupulous conformity; a cause, principle, or system of beliefs held to with ardor and faith.

By this definition is religion the doctrine of Christ?  By this definition doesn't everyone have religion?

Please note the 'or' in the definition; as the world defines religion as "faith in God or something else".

"A personal set or system of beliefs" by this definition even an unbeliever has religion.

Religion in the Word of GOD.  The first record of the word religion in the word of God is not about the gospel of Christ.  The first religion mentioned by the apostle Paul is the religion of the Pharisees, which was NOT the doctrine of Christ.

Which knew me from the beginning, if they would testify, that after the most straitest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee.  Acts 26:5

We can also see from this scripture that at that time the religion of the Pharisees was quoted as the most straitest sect of their religion.

Even though the religion of the Pharisees was false because it did not include the full gospel of Christ, which is the doctrine of Christ, it was considered by the people of that time to be the most straightest sect of their religion.

Today we have thousands of religions in the world.  You name it and there is probably a religion created around it; even if it is NOT from God or even about God.

And now I stand and am judged for the hope of the promise made of God unto our fathers:  Acts 26:6

In the next verse, Paul tells us that he no longer lives as a Pharisee, he no longer follows their most straitest sect of religion, but he says that he now stands and that he is now judged for the hope of the promise made of God, which is the hope of salvation and the promise of everlasting life.

The life of the apostle Paul is amazing.

God took Paul (who was before his conversion named Saul) a Pharisee who denied Christ, who tortured and killed the followers of Christ, who persecuted God and His children, and God completely transformed him.  God turned Saul around and God made him into Paul, a true believer and follower of Jesus Christ.

This is the same transformation that God wants to make in each of us.  God wants to turn us all from being a Saul into a Paul.  God wants to turn us all from the power of satan to the power of God, to turn from being without Christ into being with Christ.

One of the most powerful and strongest opponent of Christ, who was Saul, became one of Jesus Christ's largest and most powerful supporters, who is Paul.

Paul's transformation shows us the grace and mercy and the power of God Almighty.

What this tells us is that anyone, no matter what they believe in today, and no matter what they have done in the past, and no matter how strong or powerful they seem - that anyone can change with God

God has the power to transform anyone, it does not matter what they have said or what they have done in the past.

By trusting in God, placing faith in His Son, Jesus Christ, anyone can turn from darkness to light and turn from the power of satan to the power of God (Acts 26:18).

With God anyone can receive forgiveness of any and all sins and inherit all the promises of God.

To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me.  Acts 26:18

This is the hope of salvation, the love gift from God Almighty, who doesn't want anyone to perish, but everyone to receive everlasting life.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  John 3:16

Only God can erase your past, only God can forgive all your sins, only God can turn your life around, turn you from the power of satan to the power of God, and only God can guide you on the one and only true straight path to life everlasting.

Where did religion come from?

The gospel of Christ, the doctrine of Christ, the word of God came from God.   God never called His doctrine, religion.

Which knew me from the beginning, if they would testify, that after the most straitest sect of our religion I lived a Pharisee.  Acts 26:5

In the word of God, we can read that the Pharisees religion was called "the most straitest sect of our religion", but we know in fact that it was a false religion created by man, because it contradicted the doctrine of God, it did not completely align with the Word of God.

We see that there were many more religious sects at that time, because the scripture says the most straitest sect, meaning there were more than one.

The only true religion is from God Almighty the creator of everything.

The doctrine of Christ is the only true religion we are to follow.

Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God.  He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.  2 John 1:9

God tells us in His word, that we are to follow the doctrine of Christ, NOT the doctrine of man.

The word of God warns all of us, not to put our faith in traditions and doctrines of man.  Saving faith is in God alone, not in traditions of man and not in the doctrines of any man.

Religion does NOT save anyone.  Only God saves people.  No religion saves anyone, only God saves.  Putting anything before God, above God, is idolatry.  We must be sure we do not put our religion, our denomination, our religious traditions, denominational doctrines above God and the doctrine of Christ Jesus.  God instructs us to fellowship with other believers, we are to love our brothers and sisters in Christ and worship and pray with each other and for each other, but we are never to place anything before God, in front of God, in place of God, even our church or religion.

Being any denominational name or any named member of any religious denomination does NOT save anyone, because only God Almighty saves anyone from sin and death.  By the grace of God through faith in God we are saved, not by faith in a denomination.

So many people are misguided into false hope of believing, putting their faith in the name of their religious sect, instead of putting their hope and trust in the one and only true God.

Being a "good <insert any religion>" saves no one from sin and death.  Only faith in God alone saves anyone.  The word of God tells us all that there is NOT salvation in any other name but the name of Jesus Christ.

Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.  This is the stone which was set at nought of you builders, which is become the head of the corner.  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.  Acts 4:10-12

Through Jesus Christ of Nazareth we are saved, and there is NONE other name by which we must be saved.

We are all saved the exact same way, by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, there is no other way.

For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.  Galatians 3:26

What about religions that are based on the doctrine of God?

DO NOT BE DECEIVED, NO person on this earth has God's permission to add to or subtract from His Holy Word.

A religion may claim to be based on the Word of God, based on the doctrine of God, but is it really?

Concerning the doctrine of God, it is all or nothing.  Beware of partially based religions.

Just because a religion claims to be based on the doctrine of God, does not mean it is of God.

Substitution Religions

I can bake a cake based on my Grandmother's delicious cake recipe, but if I substitute dirt for the flour, it will not be my Grandmother's cake, it would not rise or perform like it should, and it would taste like dirt

So why didn't it turn out like her cake, why didn't it have the great taste of her cake?  Why couldn't I call it Grandmother's cake?  Because it wasn't Grandmother's cake, because I didn't follow her words in her recipe, and because I had substituted dirt for the flour - I had made dirt cake.  I can call my cake, "Grandmother's recipe", all day long, but it isn't, because I had substituted and based my cake on dirt, something other than Grandmother's recipe.

This is what happens to "religions" who base their doctrine on the Word of God, and then substitute parts of the doctrine of Christ, substitute God's words, add to and or replace the Words of God with their own words, their own doctrines of men and their religion becomes dirt cake, it becomes a false religion, because it is based on something other than God's Word.

Addition Religions

Some religions add to the Word of God, as if it were incomplete somehow.

God is sufficient.  God is complete.  We do NOT need to add anything to God or His Word.  God is complete and His Word is complete.

God takes adding to His word as serious as taking words away from it.

God is not lacking anything.  The Word of God is not lacking anything.  We are lacking, we are without, we are incomplete, but God needs nothing more.

God needs nothing from mankind.  God needs nothing from man to be added to His Holy Word.

Some religions have additional text that is taught along side of God's Holy Word, and taught as if it were the same as the Word of God.  This is a deceptive practice and NOT biblical and NOT of God.

The teaching of the doctrine of God is complete in His Holy written Word.

Some religions go so far as to create their own bibles, which have their false doctrine inserted as if it were part of the original manuscripts of God's Holy Word.  Beware of false bibles.

Do NOT be deceived, any person can write a bible, remember the word bible means book, any person can write a book and call it a bible, but that does not mean that it is from God.

God gives us all complete instruction in His Holy Word, exactly how to tell if a religion is false or a bible is false.  The source to prove what is of God, and what isn't, can always be found in God's Word.

This is why it is so important to meditate and study God's Word and have His Word written on the tables of our hearts, so that we can, without a doubt, and instinctively discern fact from fiction, truth from lies, God's words from false doctrine.

Interpretation Religions

This religion may not directly change the written word of God, but alters its true meaning.

People claiming to have received a "new revelation" from God Himself as to the "true interpretation" of God's Holy Scripture, which alter the doctrine of Christ, are false.

These "new revelations" from God are false because they alter the meaning of God's written word.  These people may claim to have "heard the voice of God" speak to them.  These people claim to "know what God really meant".

God specifically states that any doctrine that contradicts the doctrine of God as found in His original written Word is false doctrine.

Some of these people go as far as to say, that "they alone know the true meaning" of Scripture, that "they alone know God".

God says that His word is NOT of any private interpretation.

No one owns God.  Some religions teach that if you do not follow their teachings that you cannot know God.  Some religions claim that only their members truly know God and are the only ones who will be saved by God.  This false teaching goes against everything in God's written Word, because God states - whosoever - any and all people that believe in Him will be saved.

No one owns exclusive rights to God.  Anyone who claims exclusive rights to God is a liar.  God is owned by no one, no particular religion, no particular group of people, no one person.  No membership, no relationship, no affiliation with any group of any people can save you.  Only God saves.  God alone saves people.  God never stated that one must belong to a specific group of people or  have a membership into a group or become a follower of a specific religion or member of a religion organization in order to be saved.

No one owns exclusive rights to know God.  No one group of people, sect, organization, assembly, knows God exclusively.  God promises all people who seek Him will find Him, not just a selected few.

No one owns exclusive rights to knowledge of God's word.  God promises that His Spirit instructs every child of God through their own spirit in knowledge and wisdom of His truth, not just a selected few.

No one person on this earth is the gateway to God.  God says that no person on this earth has to teach us about Him, because through salvation (His perfect plan for mankind), He made a way for us to have direct contact with Him, a personal relationship with Him, that no man has to give us or teach us.

We must believe in God to be saved, not any man.  Faith in God is required for salvation, not faith in any religion or any person.

...ye need not that any man teach you... 1 John 2:27

Anyone who tells you that you must listen to them and abide what they say to really know God is a liar, because God tells us all that we do NOT need any man to teach us about God, because God is sufficient; God is able to teach us everything that we need to know about Him.

The promises, the knowledge, the wisdom, the truth of God is available to all God's children through faith, not just a select few.

Our knowledge of God comes from God, not from men and not from ourselves.  No one can save themselves. Our own knowledge of God is faulty, incomplete, not to be trusted, because God instructs us to trust in Him, lean on Him, go to Him for knowledge about Him, not to other people and not to ourselves (Proverbs 3:5).

God states in His Word that He gives all His children His Holy Spirit to comfort us, instruct us, guide us, lead us, in all things that pertain to God and His ways and gives all His children the same faith and grace and knowledge to understand His Holy Word.

All the children of God are empowered by the same Spirit to interpret the word of God.

God says that no man has to teach us what God wants us to know, what God means by His Holy Word, because God promises each of His children the same power to hear God's voice, receive His wisdom and His knowledge of His truth.

Not all people who claim to have heard God's voice, or claim to have received words or a message from God, are true.

Prophecy is a spoken word from God and will always align with His written Word.  People who claim to have received a divine message from God that contradicts God's written word in any way are false prophets.

Penalties for adding to or subtracting from God's Word

God gives strict instructions to all people as to the handling of His Holy Words.

The words of God were given from God Himself to Holy men of God to write down, who were inspired by the Holy Spirit of God as what to write, words that represent the truth of God, the revelation of God Himself to mankind.  The Word of God, the Holy Bible, are the words of God Himself.

The Word of God, the Holy Bible, are the words of God, not the words of any man.

God promises to anyone who tampers with God's words will face eternal death, separation from God for all eternityAnyone who adds to or subtracts from the words of God, will face all the plagues, diseases, which are written in His Word, and will ultimately face the judgment and wrath of God, unless they repent to God for their sins.

No one is exempt from the word of God.  No one is exempt from the promises of God.

It is a fearful and very terrible thing to fall into the hands of the living God as His enemy (Hebrews 10:30-31).

For I testify unto every man that heareth the words of the prophecy of this book, If any man shall add unto these things, God shall add unto him the plagues that are written in this book:  And if any man shall take away from the words of the book of this prophecy, God shall take away his part out of the book of life, and out of the holy city, and from the things which are written in this book.  Revelation 22:18-19

There is hope, if you have added to or taken away from any of the words of God written in His book, but you must repent of your sins, you must stop doing it, turn away from your sins, confess of your sins, and ask God to forgive you and receive His gift of eternal life.

God promises all people, all sinners, that if they confess their sins and repent of their sins (turn from sin) and ask God to forgive them of their sins, God promises that He will forgive all who come to Him.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  1 John 1:9

What is the Jew's religion?

The religion of the Jewish people, the Jew's religion, was based on the commandments and laws that Moses received from God in the Old Testament and is not the gospel of Christ of the New Testament.

For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:  And profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.  Galatians 1:13-14

The law was superseded by Jesus Christ.  Through the death and resurrection of Christ Jesus, we can receive salvation, by believing in Him alone.

Through serving Christ we can receive everlasting life.  We are saved by the grace of God through faith in God, not by any works, and not by any laws.

We are NOT saved by the laws Moses, but we are saved by the grace of God alone, through faith in the Son of God, Jesus the Christ.

For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.  John 1:17

Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.  For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.  Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.  And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.  John 6:32-35

And by him all that believe are justified from all things, from which ye could not be justified by the law of Moses.  Acts 13:39

But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.  Acts 15:11

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.  For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.  Romans 10:9-13

And not as Moses, which put a veil over his face, that the children of Israel could not stedfastly look to the end of that which is abolished:  But their minds were blinded: for until this day remaineth the same veil untaken away in the reading of the old testament; which veil is done away in Christ.  But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the veil is upon their heart.  Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.  But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.  2 Corinthians 3:13-18

For in Jesus Christ neither circumcision availeth any thing, nor uncircumcision; but faith which worketh by love.  Galatians 5:6

For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.  Philippians 3:3

Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:  That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.  Philippians 3:8-10;14

(Please Note:  This is the Jew's religion as spoken of in the Scriptures, not the Jewish religion of today, or all Jewish people's religion of today, because many Jewish people have believed and accepted Christ Jesus as their personal Lord and Saviour today.)

Why are there so many religions today?

There are so many religions in the world today because there are so many people in this world.

At the time this is being written there are over 7 billion people in the world and there are 300 million people in the United States.  Every second this number is increased.

We have so many different religions today because there are over 7 billion people in the world (as of this writing).

Since the beginning of time, man has created beliefs for himself.  The beliefs man created he called religion, the doctrine of the commandments of men.

Religion was created by man and for man.  God is NOT religion.  Religion is NOT God.

No one should ever let their religion stand in the way of their relationship with the Lord God.

Do we need religion?  Do we need thousands of denominations?  Do we all need to have different beliefs about God?

What does God say?

The word of God reads that through the One Spirit of God that believers are ALL one body in Christ.

For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.  1 Corinthians 12:13

God says that there is only ONE BODY.

There is one body, and one Spirit, even as ye are called in one hope of your calling; One Lord, one faith, one baptism, One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.  Ephesians 4:4-6

PLEASE NOTE that God does NOT say that this one faith, one body is called by any specific denominations name.

God did NOT say that the one faith is called Baptist, or Catholic, or Methodist, or any specific denomination or religious sect.

God DOES say that the one faith is Jesus Christ and only Jesus.

So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.  Romans 12:5

How do I know if a religion is false?

This section has been moved.

What will happen to me if I stay in a false religion?

This section has been moved.

For more information see - OTHER DOCTRINES

Which religion is correct?

The only true religion is from God Almighty the Creator of everything.  God says we are to preach the gospel of Christ, as it is written in His Holy Word.  God also says that we are to avoid any doctrine that is contrary to the gospel of Christ.

Religion is man-made, NOT God made.

Different men interrupt the word of God differently; therefore there are many man-made religions.

God gave us faith to believe in Him to salvation.  God gifts us salvation, not religion.

Christ didn't die on His cross to give us religion, but to give us everlasting life, to give us eternal salvation from sin and death.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.  John 3:16-17

So where is God's religion?  The word of God, His Holy Word is the doctrine of God.  God never called the gospel of Christ a religionWhy would He?  God gave us His word, the word of God is the words of God as our instruction and guide, the doctrine of God, the gospel of Christ Jesus, the doctrine of Christ, the gospel of the Kingdom of God.  True religion is not man's doctrine, but Christ's doctrine received through salvation by faith in Christ Jesus.

And Jesus went about all Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing all manner of sickness and all manner of disease among the people.  Matthew 4:23

And Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, and preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people.  Matthew 9:35

Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.  Mark 1:14-15

God never said "this is my religion", but He did say this is "my doctrine" and this is "my gospel" and "my Word".   The word of God is the doctrine of God, not religion.

The word of God is the doctrine of God and the doctrine of Christ Jesus, there is no difference because they are One (John 10:30).

Man created religion, NOT God.  Man's beliefs are the doctrines of men.  God's truth is the doctrine of God.

We should never confuse the doctrine of God with the doctrines of men.

So many religions start out all about God, but are infused with the teachings of men, the ideas of men, theories of men, beliefs of men, commandments of men, doctrines of men, that they become something different, something other than the doctrine of God.

God wants us ALL to follow the doctrine of Christ, NOT the doctrine of men.

Some people falsely teach the commandments of men as the doctrines of Christ.  God says these people worship Him in vain and their heart is from Him.

This people draweth nigh unto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with their lips; but their heart is far from me. But in vain they do worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.  Matthew 15:8-9

Howbeit in vain do they worship me, teaching for doctrines the commandments of men.  Mark 7:7

Jesus tells us how to spot a false religion, a false doctrine

Jesus said people who speak of themselves, who seek their own glory, are NOT teaching the doctrine of God.

He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.  John 7:18

How simple!  If what is being preached benefits some person instead of God, if what is being preached speaks of someone's own glory, if what is being preached brings glory to a person, if what is being preached is self promoting and NOT promoting Christ Jesus, if what is being preached is NOT the doctrine of Christ, it is a false religion, it is a false doctrine.

People who preach the doctrine of Christ seek the glory of God, NOT man.  True religion seeks only the Glory of God.

This scripture makes it very easy to know if a religion is false.  Just ask who does the religion glorify?  Does it glory some man, is the religion teachings from some man, promoting some man, promoting another doctrine?  If a religion is based on some man's teachings and beliefs, it is a false doctrine.

Does your religion promote Christ or some person's teachings

Does your religion glorify God?

Does your religion promote the name of the Son of God, Jesus Christ, or does it promote its own name?

Does your religion state the truth of the word of God, that Jesus Christ is Lord?

If a religion is based on the doctrine of Christ, and only glorifies God, it is possibly a true religion.

False religions, cults of today spread the teachings of some human being, or the beliefs of some human being here on earth, alive or dead.

If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.  John 7:17

Jesus also told us that if we do the will of God that we will know if a doctrine is of God or a false doctrine.

Even if some person tells us that they have received their new teaching directly from God, God says in His word, if it is NOT the same doctrine of Christ as what is written in His word, it is false doctrine.

We are only to follow the teachings of Christ Jesus, the doctrine of God.

We are NOT to follow any teachings from any persons that seek their own glory.

How does a false religion seek its own glory?

  • You can know if a religion seeks it own glory, when they put their teaching above the word of God, or on the same level as the word of God.  God says nothing is to be put above Him and no one is equal to God.
  • If they tell their followers that they must read their writings to understand God.  God says we can receive knowledge of Him through His Spirit and His Word.  God explains Himself, reveals Himself to all who seek Him.  Every creature is born with the capacity to know God.  But not every person accepts the knowledge of God.
  • If they tell their followers that they must believe all their teachings and all their writings.  God says we are to put our complete faith and trust in Him alone.   We are to have faith in God, not man, not teachings of man, for our salvation.
  • If they tell their followers that they must promote their writings and doctrine, distribute their writings and doctrine.  God says we are to have no other doctrine contrary to His.  The only writings and doctrine we should promote is the Word of God.

We are only to promote the doctrine of God, the doctrine of Christ Jesus, not any man-made religion.

If you are promoting any "religion", by its name or by its writings, you are seeking the religion's own glory and NOT the glory of God.

Do you want people to know without a doubt that you belong to "xyz religion" or that you belong to God?

Personally, I belong to God Almighty; I am part of the family of God, not of some religion.   God owns me, no one else.  No religion dictates my life; God alone has laid out the plan for my life.  God reigns supreme.  My God is ruler and controller of my life, not a religion.

First and foremost, I am a child of God, reconciled to God through His Son, Jesus Christ.  I can be a member of a denomination, but I am OF God

My life begins and ends in Christ Jesus, not with any denomination.

I owe everything to Jesus, not to any denomination.

I am Christ's, even if I am not a member of any denomination or church.

By the grace of God I am saved, through faith and trust in His Son, Jesus Christ the Lord of all.

New Revelations from God

Many, many people today claim that they have heard directly from God Himself.  They claim that they had a vision, a dream, where God spoke directly to themThey claim to have had a personal encounter with God and that God gave them a new revelation

Today is no different from any other time in history.  All throughout history, people have been claiming to have received a new divine revelation from God

The word of God clearly states how we are to determine if such people have truly heard from God.

Remember that prophecy is receiving a word from God is not necessarily a word about future events.

A test for true prophecy

The first test is that their revelation from God must NOT contradict with any part of the word of God.

This first measure of truth puts most false revelations and prophecies in the garbage, because their message contradicts God

Numerous false religions, cults, are started with some person having a "new divine revelation from God".  But as with all cults, their divine revelation contradicts the word of God, and therefore is false.  Of course, this should, but does not concern their cult members.

Another test is time.  If the word from God that a person received is a prophecy and if the prophecy does NOT come true, this person is a false prophet and should not be listened to any more.

One example is that many false religions have some person that has predicted the date of the end of the world, or other future event.  But the dates come and go and their prophecy is NOT fulfilled

Even when the dates pass and the prophecy is NOT fulfilled, these people stay in their cult.  Even when their prophet is found out to be a false prophet, some excuse is made and people still blindly follow the false prophet and cult teachings straight to hell.

Another test is the content of the message received.  What is the message that they received from God?  Who does the message glorify? How does their message glorify God?  If the revelation or message glorifies some person, some thing, some teaching of man, instead of glorifying God, then their revelation is false.

Another test is also within the content of the message received.  Does the revelation harm the children of God?  God says if the message in any way harms His people, or kills His children, then that the revelation is false.  God says that person is a false prophet, and should not be listened to anymore.

Why?  Because God does not harm or kill His own children and would never tell anyone else to harm His children in any way.  The devil kills, and would like nothing better than create a mass murder of God's children.  The devil's goal is to kill all of God's creatures, all human beings on this earth.

I can think of many false prophets, throughout our history, that have harmed and killed many, many of their followers, falsely in the name of God.  Mass suicide, mass murder is of the devil, and is NOT of God.

Another test is within our own Spirit of God.  When we become believers of Christ our spirit is reborn, we are given the Spirit of God.  The word of God reads that our spirit can discern the truth, through the Spirit of Christ.

Have you ever been at church or heard someone on the radio or television, who was preaching and their message just didn't sound right to you?  That is the Spirit of God speaking to your spirit, telling you something is not right.  The Spirit of Christ will show your spirit what is true revelation from God and what is false.

When you are studying the word of God and you see a scripture differently than before, that is the Spirit of God speaking to your spirit.  Maybe you have read a scripture several times, but today it has new meaning for you, this is the Spirit of God speaking to your spirit, you are hearing the voice of God through His Spirit IN you.  The Scripture has not changed, because God does not change, but you change every day as you live in faith to God.  The more time you spend with God and His Word the more your vision will change to see things as Christ sees.

God speaks to all His children who will listen.

Are any prophecies today from God?  Yes, there are many that are from God, true prophecies today from God's people.

There are certainly godly people, faithful followers, the spiritually discerning, who do receive special messages and prophecies from God today, who God tell to share with other people.

God tells us in His Holy word to test the words from men against His word to prove that they are true.

Only the name of Lord Jesus Christ saves

Many people today believe their religion saves them.

Many people today believe that by only belonging to a certain group of people saves them.

Many people today believe that reading and believing man-made words, the doctrines of men saves them.

Many people today believe that some human being, a person alive on this earth today, saves them.

Many people today believe that they do not need God, or that they are god, or like god, and they save themselves.

Many people today reject any belief in God, and believe no one is saved.

Many people today believe that another god, an ancient dead god, saves them.

Many people today believe that a chant or certain words said at one time, or over and over for the rest of their life saves them.

Many people today believe that praying a certain way, either by themselves or someone else praying over them or for them actually saves them.  Only God saves.

Many people in this world today believe praying to a dead lifeless statue saves them.

Many people today believe that being a "good" person and living a "good" life saves them.

Many people today believe there are many, many ways to God, or believing in something or someone is better than believing in nothing, and all these different ways saves them.

Many people today believe that we are all saved by doing nothing, that when we are born we are all saved.

Many people today believe that no one is saved, but a select few, only a certain number of people are already saved, no one else can be saved because a certain number of people have already been met, and only these selected few will ever see God, and only them are saved.

Many people today believe that they must create sufferings for themselves in order to suffer great hardships, or hurt themselves, or live in solitude, or sacrifice all their money, or live in poverty, or become a member of a certain sect, or many other man-made rituals saves them.

What do all these people have in common?  God says that they are all wrong.

The Holy Bible, the Word of God, God says that the only way to Him is through the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth.

God says there is salvation in no other name, except Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ saves.

There is no other name under heaven given to ALL people, whereby we must be saved.

No person has ever gone to be with the Father God in Heaven, or will ever go to the Father God in Heaven, except by Jesus.

Be it known unto you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom ye crucified, whom God raised from the dead, even by him doth this man stand here before you whole.  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.  Acts 4:10,12

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.  John 14:6

And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.  Acts 16:31

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  Romans 10:9

For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,  1 Thessalonians 5:9

What is the doctrine of Christ?

The word of God is the doctrine of Christ.  The gospel of Jesus is the doctrine of Christ.  The doctrine of God is the doctrine of Christ.

The gospel that Jesus preached, while He was here on earth in the flesh, is the doctrine of God the Father.

Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me.  John 7:16

The doctrine of Christ is the doctrine of God the Father

All words that came out of the mouth of Jesus Christ, the Son of God, was from His Father God.

The gospel that is contained in the word of God is the doctrine of God and the doctrine of Christ.

For more information see - DOCTRINE OF CHRIST

What is pure religion?

The word of God tell us that:

  • Pure religion is undefiled before God and the Father
  • Pure religion is to visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction
  • Pure religion is to remain unspotted from the world

Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.  James 1:27

Who are the undefiled but those who walk in the way of the LORD?

ALEPH. Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.  Psalm 119:1

Who are the fatherless and widows, but people who are without?  Who are those people who are without, but the lost in the world?

Pure religion is to visit all the people who are without.

Pure religion is to keep yourself unspotted from the world.

Do you have pure religion?

Who are the undefiled?  Who are the defiled?

The defiled are the unbelieving, the abominable, those who are disobedient toward God and those who sin against God.

Unto the pure all things are pure: but unto them that are defiled and unbelieving is nothing pure; but even their mind and conscience is defiled.  They profess that they know God; but in works they deny him, being abominable, and disobedient, and unto every good work reprobate.  Titus 1:15-16

Who can forgive my sins?

So many people say that their sins are forgiven, but they are all from different religions.

Who can truly forgive ALL my sins?

The Lord God can forgive ALL sins of ALL people

Why can't a priest forgive my sins?  Because God says that only He can forgive our sins, no one else.

By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.  And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins:  Hebrews 10:9-10

The word of God tells us that Jesus replaces all the laws of man.  The priest daily offers up sacrifice for sins for the people, which are NOT accepted by God.   The only sin offering acceptable by God is the body of Jesus Christ, which has already been given ONCE for ALL, one sacrifice one-time for all sin for all people for all time.

Because the Son of God shed His blood for the remission of our sins, on His cross at Calvary, only faith in His blood alone can cleanse anyone from their sins.

We are not sanctified to God through any man, including priests.  We are sanctified by God, by grace through faith.  Faith in God alone to forgive sin, because God Himself says a priest can NEVER take away our sins.

Jesus Christ died once and for all the sins.  There is no sacrifice any priest, or any man, can give for sin, acceptable to God for the remission of our sins.

Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.  For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore. Hebrews 7:27-28

Jesus is everlastingJesus died once for the sins of the world.  Jesus doesn't die over and over again, because God says He did this ONCE.

Jesus will never die again.

Jesus died once and for all, for ALL the sins of the world, for ALL the people of the world, God demanded no more sacrifice for sin, but His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.  The sacrifice for sin, required by God for atonement of our sins was fulfilled by Christ Jesus, ONCE FOR ALL.

By so much was Jesus made a surety of a better testament.  And they truly were many priests, because they were not suffered to continue by reason of death:  But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood.  Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.  For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;  Hebrews 7:22-26

The word of God clearly states the truth that only Jesus who lives forever can make intercession between God and man.

No pastor, no priest, no leader, no parent, no saint, no sister, no brother, no brethren, no teacher, no person living or dead can make intercession between man and God, except the Son of God, Jesus Christ.  No one can forgive sins except God.  No one can save anyone from sin and death except God.  God alone saves and God alone forgives sin.

Jesus Christ is the only advocate between God and His people.

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:  And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world1 John 2:1-2

A human being, pastor or priest, can only hear your sins, they cannot forgive your sins.

No human being on this earth can forgive sins.  No saint alive or dead can forgive sins.

The only one who can forgive our sins is Jesus Christ the Lord and Saviour.

God alone saves and God alone forgives sins.

Where is your religion?

My religion is Christ Jesus in my heart, in my soul and in my spirit.

For me, my religion is not a building; it is my spirit, my soul that is saved by the grace of God through faith in Christ Jesus.

My religion is not a building or a piece of paper or a church membership or owning a bible.

My religion, my beliefs of God are with me, inside of me no matter where I am and no matter who I am with.

My religion is my faith in Christ Jesus my own personal beliefs engraved on my heart by God, not someone else's beliefs, not what someone tells me that I should believe.

I do not need a religious denomination, or to be a member of any religion, in order to be saved and receive everlasting life, because God said ALL that I need is to believe on His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ.  All I need is to put my faith and trust in Jesus and to obey my God Almighty.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  John 3:16

If I were on a desert island for the rest of my life, without any human contact, without communication to any living person, without my Bible, without access to anything of the world, I know that my Father God, my Lord and Saviour, my Salvation, my Eternal Life, the Resurrection, Jesus Christ, my God, would be with me and the Holy Ghost would comfort me all the days of my life.

All I ever need is God.  God is enough!

My hope, my salvation, and my life is in the hands of the one true living God, the LORD God Almighty, the Creator of the universe, my Defender, my Shepherd, my Saviour, and my Redeemer forever and ever.

Do you have a relationship with God?

Knowing God is a relationship, NOT a religion!

Please do NOT let your religion get in the way of your relationship with God.

A bunch of manmade doctrines and traditions cannot save anyone from sin and hell.

The word of God does not tell us to seek and find a religion; the word of God teaches us to seek God and to have a relationship with Him

No one can have a relationship or fellowship with a religion

We can have a relationship with God; we can have fellowship with Christ Jesus.

Please never let your religion get in the way of your relationship with God.

God cares about your relationship with His Son, Jesus Christ, and NOT which denomination we say that we are.

Only Jesus Christ can save anyone, there is eternal life in Jesus Christ.

Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:  John 11:25

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.  John 14:6

But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.  John 20:31

Eternal life is in the name of Jesus Christ, not in the name of any denomination, religion, sect, order, or assembly.

Many people have forgotten the purpose of their religion, and have placed their religion as a high priority, defending their religion to the death.  Our glory is God, not religion.  Our purpose is to love God, not religion.

We must be careful not to place our religion, our denomination above God.  Be careful not to worship your religion, over God.  Are you serving your religion, serving your denomination, or are you serving God?  Do you take great pride in your religion, your denomination, are you a child of your religion, or are you a child of God?

God said, "Thou shalt have no other gods before me"Are you placing your religion, your denomination over God?

God wants all His children to have fellowship with other believers.  But a religion is not a replacement for the relationship with Christ Jesus.

Too many people get involved with the activities of assembly and forget why they are assembling.  We assemble with other believers to love God, to glorify God, to seek God, to pray to God, to worship God and to serve God.

An assembly of believers, being in fellowship with other believers of Christ will NOT save anyone, but the word of God reads we should regularly fellowship with people who believe in the doctrine of Christ.

God wants us to worship and share our faith and share our love with other people.  God wants His children to fellowship with other believers.

If we love God, if follow the will of God and His commandments, then we will assemble with other believers of Christ Jesus.

And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works: Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.  Hebrews 10:24-25

How can I choose the right religion?

(The religion we are speaking of here is a place of worship, an assembly with other believers of Jesus Christ).

God wants all His children to exchange fellowship and love with each other.

God wants us to gather together with other believers and worship Him together in love, in spirit and in truth.  All of God's children belong to the same family.  God wants His family to spend time together, sharing His love.

God desires that all His children continue steadfast in His doctrine, worship and prayer to Him, and fellowship with Him and one another.

And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.  Acts 2:42

Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water.  Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without wavering; (for he is faithful that promised;)  And let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good works:  Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching.  Hebrews 10:22-25

Let us draw near, with a true heart in full assurance of faith, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together.

If you are a child of God, the Spirit of God will speak to your spirit and help you discern the right place to worship.

Pray to God and seek His guidance of where you are to worship Him.

Ask God to show you the place that He wants you to serve and worship Him.

Worship God in a place that teaches all the Word of God.

First and foremost you want a place of worship where they love God and teach the word of God and glorify God.  You want a place to worship where they preach and teach ALL the word of God.  And a place where they conduct a worship service to God Almighty, not just a social club to meet and talk about the world.

You want to find a place that lifts up the word of God, fears God and worships and loves God with all their heart, with all their soul, and with all their might.

A true preacher of the word of God glorifies God and teaches us about our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, the Son of God.  And through his teachings makes us want to abide in Christ, learn more about God and instructs us how to live for Christ, how to live a godly life, and love God more every day.

There are many, good places to worship today.  We have more places to worship God today, than ever before.  Sometimes you may have to go to many places to find the one right for your spirit.

God will lead you to where He wants you to worship Him, just ask Him.

God's checklist for His place of worship for you, include members who:

  • Love God with all their heart, all their soul and all their might
  • Glorify God above all else
  • Live in the grace and fullness of God
  • Surrender all to God
  • Live separate from the world
  • Spend time worshiping God in song and prayer
  • Teach ALL the word of God; teach the doctrine of God, the gospel of Christ
  • Fellowship with each other and love each other
  • Preach Jesus Christ is Lord
  • Grow in faith; remain steadfast in the faith of God
  • Pray for all people; reach out to their community and help those in need
  • Preach the resurrection of Jesus and the resurrection of the saints
  • Uplift each other; live in love of the brethren and love of all people
  • Teach salvation through faith in Christ Jesus by the grace of God
  • Teach how to abide IN Christ
  • Teach forgiveness of all people for all things
  • Teach godly repentance of all sin
  • Learn more about God
  • Teach God is enough in our lives
  • Teach the will of God and DO the will of God
  • Grow the church; adding new souls to the kingdom of God
  • Preach out to their community the love of God
  • Teach how to live for Christ
  • Teach how to live a godly life in trust and obedience to God
  • Teach how to love God more every day
  • Teach charity and serve others
  • Wait, watch and pray for the return of Jesus Christ

Let us draw near, with a true heart in full assurance of faith, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together.

God does NOT want you to be alone.  God wants you to share His love, in fellowship with other believers.

Yes, you can worship God alone in your house, and you should seek Him and worship Him when you are alone in your own house.  But in addition to that, God also wants us to assemble together with other believers, because He loves us and God knows what we need.

Some people say they don't need to go to church, or assemble with other believers to please God, but that is not what God says in His Word.  God said that we as believers, because we love Him, that we are NOT to forsake the assembling of ourselves together.

If God said it, I believe it, and I will DO it!!

What does it mean a man's religion is in vain?

Our actions do speak louder than our words.  We are how we live, not who we say that we are.  If we say we are a Christian, but we live like the devil, our religion is in vain, means nothing to those who see us, and is unfruitful for God.

The word of God reads that anyone who cannot control their words, which come out of their heart, then their religion is in vain - of no effect, worthless.

If any man among you seem to be religious, and bridleth not his tongue, but deceiveth his own heart, this man's religion is vain.  James 1:26

If we talk the talk, we should walk the walk!

If we say that we love God and obey His word, then we should DO His will and walk in His ways.  As children of God, we should not live as the sinners of this lost world.

Who is in our heart, which we serve, is vocalized by our words and is either God or satan.  What comes out our mouths is exactly what is in our heart.

If we tell people that we are saved and that we believe in Jesus and follow His way, we should live like who we say we are.  If we say we are Christians, we should live like Christ.  A Christian is a representative of Christ Jesus; we are examples of Christ to the lost of the world.  By our example, we are to bring others to God.

Our actions, what we say and what we do, are to influence those around us so much that they will want to seek Christ out for themselves.

Jesus Christ wants all His followers, His disciples, to be a representative of Him.

We should be able to bring the lost to God, by our example of how we live our daily lives.

Do others see Jesus in you?

The Light of Jesus is to shine through us, through our lives so brightly that others will want to know what we have and then we can bring others to Him.

And he said to them all, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.  Luke 9:23

Do others see your good works?  Do others glorify God because of what you say and how you live?

Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.  Matthew 5:16

Do others ask you about the reason of your hope that is in you?

But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:  1 Peter 3:15

Do others see you as an example of the believers of Jesus Christ?

Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.  1 Timothy 4:12

When we profess to be a Christian, our testimony is out there for the whole world to see.  By our daily life are what type of picture of Christ are we projecting to the world?

If your co-worker hears you lie to a client on the phone, gossip about the boss, see you steal supplies, hear about you padding your expense account, see you get in work late and leave early, covet someone else's car, lust after someone's spouse, just how likely do you think that they will listen to you talk about Jesus, or go with them when you invite them to your church?  No, it is not very likely.  One excuse many people use for not going to church is because they think the people who go are a bunch of hypocrites, because they see how they truly live at work and at home.

What are some myths about religion?

There are many myths about religion; we will look at a few here:

1.  Religion is of God

2.  Religion is required by God

3.  Religion has started most wars

4.  Religion can save you

5.  Religion is the will of God

6.  All religions lead to God

7.  We are to defend our religion to the death.

I am sure you have heard many more religion myths, like I have.  The only way we can stop religion myths is to know the truth of the one true living God, through reading, studying, and mediating on His Word, and through prayer and worship with God.

1.  Religion is of God

The word of God states that Christ Jesus is of God, love is of God, the children of God are of God, salvation is of the Lord (1 John 4:2; 1 John 4:7; 1 John 4:4, 6; Psalm 37:39; Jonah 2:9).

The Word of God is not religion; the word of God is the truth of God.  The Word of God is the doctrine of God, the doctrine of Christ, the gospel of God.

God says that all people who do not abide in the doctrine of Christ do not have God (2 John 1:9).

2.  Religion is required by God

Faith is required by God, faith in Him and faith in His Son, Christ Jesus to salvation (1 Corinthians 4:2).  Religion is not required by God.

For ye are all the children of God by faith in Christ Jesus.  Galatians 3:26

We do NOT become the children of God through religion, but by faith in Christ Jesus to salvation.

God requires faith in Him, not religion. God requires us to walk in His ways and not the ways of the world, to love Him without ceasing, and to serve Him with all our heart and with all our soul (Deuteronomy 10:12).

3.  Religion has started most wars

I have heard this religion myth my whole life, but the fact is that religion has not started most wars.  Wars are fought over difference of man's opinions, over land rights, over human rights, over human pride, not over religion.

The great world wars were fought for democracy, land, and freedom, not over religion.

Do not be deceived by the lies of men.

4.  Religion can save you

Only God can save.  Religion cannot save anyone.  Religion is not God.

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.  Romans 10:13

Religion cannot save you, no person alive or dead can save you, belonging to a certain group cannot save you, belonging to a religion cannot save you, saying certain words cannot save you, being sprinkled with any type of water cannot save you, being immersed in any type of water cannot save you, owing a particular thing cannot save you, rituals cannot save you, sacraments cannot save you, reading cannot save you, a prayer said over you cannot save you, dressing a certain way cannot save you, communion cannot save you, obtaining from certain things cannot save you, nothing but the one true living Lord God Almighty can save anyone.

Unbelief separates men from God.  Faith in God reconciles man to God, not religion.

We are saved by the grace of God (Romans 3:24; Ephesians 2:5).

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast.  Ephesians 2:8-9

5.  Religion is the will of God

The will of God is for all people of this world to come to the knowledge of His truth and to obtain His salvation through faith in His Son, Christ Jesus.

For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,  1 Thessalonians 5:9

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  John 3:16

The will of God is to have all people saved (1 Timothy 2:4).

6.  All religions lead to God

Christ Jesus leads us to God, not religion.  The one way to God is through faith in Christ Jesus, the Son of God.

Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.  John 14:6

We have access to God the Father through Jesus the Son of God, not through religion.

All religions do NOT lead to the One True Living Lord God Almighty Jehovah.

7.  We are to defend our religion to the death.

My defence is of God, which saveth the upright in heart.  Psalm 7:10

We are to defend God and the things of God, His word and His truth, to the end of our life by love, not by death of others.

Taking another's life is never condoned by God, even in defense of God Himself.

God wants us to do the exact opposite, we are to lay down our life for one another, instead of taking someone else's life (1 John 3:14-16).  Life is to be preserved, not destroy life.

This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.  Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.   John 15:12-13

What is the difference between religion and religious?

The definitions for religion and religious are similar.

The dictionary defines religious as relating to or manifesting faithful devotion to an acknowledged ultimate reality or deity; scrupulously and conscientiously faithful; of or relating to or devoted to religious beliefs or observances.

So we could say that religion is a set of beliefs based on serving God or other gods, while religious is the manifestation one devotes to those beliefs, which both are NOT designated to one true living God.

The words religion and religious are not doctrines of God, and should never be placed above God.

We should be very careful with our thoughts and actions regarding religion and religious things, that we do not place them above God or give them more honor than they are due.

We should never confuse religion with God; religion is NOT God.  We should never confuse being religious with the righteousness of God; being religious is NOT righteousness.

Being religious is NOT being righteous, because righteousness is from God alone, not religion.

Man tries to make their religion righteous, but they are unable to do so, because the righteousness of God is in Christ Jesus, not religion.

Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:  Romans 3:22

Through religion man tries to establish his own righteousness.  Many people have a zeal for God, trying to be religious by their own righteousness, which is not according to the truth of God, because there is only one righteousness the righteousness of God through Christ Jesus (Romans 10:2-4).

For they being ignorant of God's righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God.  Romans 10:3

The righteousness of God is found in God, not in religion.

What is religious tolerance?

Religious tolerance is defined as sympathy or indulgence for beliefs or practices differing from or conflicting with one's own beliefs; the act of allowing different religious beliefs; allowing deviation from a standard belief.

Allowing deviation from one's own beliefs... Can we deviate from God's truth and still hold onto faith in God?  Are we to tolerate deviations from God's truth?

Some may think that God condones religious tolerance in that we must be politically and socially correct, no matter what the cost, because it is the right thing to do.

What does God say about other doctrines?  Other doctrines are any doctrines other than God's doctrine, the doctrine of Christ, the gospel of Christ Jesus, which is the doctrine of the word of God.

What does God say about His own doctrine?  There is only one doctrine we should adhere to, which is the Word of God, the doctrine of God, which is the doctrine of Christ Jesus, the gospel, given to us by God Himself in 66 Books we call the Holy Bible.

Let's look at what is written in the word of God regarding religious tolerance.

Whosoever transgresseth, and abideth not in the doctrine of Christ, hath not God.   He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son.  If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed:  For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.  2 John 1:9-11

One Truth

There is only one truth, the Truth of God, the one true living Lord God Almighty.  The gospel of God is the word of truth, there is no other truth (Ephesians 1:13-14).

One God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.  Ephesians 4:6

Because there is only One Lord God Almighty, there can be only one truth.

God is the only God and we are to not to have other gods (Exodus 20:3; Deuteronomy 5:7).  We are not to speak of other gods (Exodus 23:13).  We are to worship no other gods (Exodus 34:14).  We are not to go after other gods (Deuteronomy 6:14, 11:28, 28:14).  We are not to turn to, serve, follow, walk after, or worship other gods (Deuteronomy 7:4, 8:19, 11:16; 2 Chronicles 7:19; Jeremiah 13:10).  We are not to make other gods, which are images of anything (Exodus 20:4; Deuteronomy 5:8).  We are not to fear other gods (2 Kings 17:7, 35, 37).

For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)  But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.  1 Corinthians 8:5-6

When the one truth of God is denied, by forsaking the truth of God, by ignoring the word of God, we forfeit our inheritance into God's Kingdom.

Resisting the truth of God, saying no to God's gift of salvation, is rejecting God.  When we reject God, we reject eternal life in His Kingdom.  Salvation has, is, and always will be our own choice.  We have the choice to choose life with God for eternity, or eternal death separated from God for all eternity.  It is our choice alone; no one can make our choice for us.

God asks us to choose life (Deuteronomy 30:19), His life, eternal life, by accepting His salvation, which is by grace through faith in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 2:8; Romans 6:23).

And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.  He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.  1 John 5:11-13

God loves us and wants us to live, live with Him forever in the eternity to come.

In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.  1 John 4:9-10

Other Doctrines

Other doctrines are any doctrines other than the Word of God.   Other doctrines are NOT of God (2 John 1:9-11).    Other doctrines are after man (Galatians 1:11).

Did you know that we are not to even speak the name of any other gods?  God says to make no mention of the name of other gods, and not to let the name of other gods be heard out of your mouth (Exodus 23:13).

God does not want us to get involved with other doctrines in any way.  God knows that our spirit is willing, but our flesh is weak (Matthew 26:41; Mark 14:38), this is why God says BEWARE, throughout His word.

BEWARE who you listen to, BEWARE what you read, BEWARE what you hear, BEWARE what you see, and BEWARE what you feed into your mind.  God knows just how easy man is deceived, by others (Matthew 7:15, 10:17, 16:6, 11, 12; Mark 8:15; Philippians 3:2-3; Colossians 2:8; 2 Peter 3:17).

Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.  Colossians 2:8

What is the purpose of other doctrines?

The purpose of the devil is to kill and destroy.  Other doctrines persuade men to turn from God to their teachings.

We must understand the purpose of other doctrines.  Other doctrines try to bring the children of God into their bondage (Galatians 2:4).

Other doctrines are extremely persuasive.  Other doctrines are usually perverted copies of the truth.  Other doctrines easily turn the simple minded (Romans 16:18), and those who are weak in the faith, away from the doctrine of the one true God.

What is the purpose of God's doctrine?

The purpose of the Word of God is to bring all men to Him through faith in Christ Jesus.

The purpose of the doctrine of God is to bring God's people together, not separate them (Ephesians 3:6).  God is the God of peace, comfort, and love; and, not a god of confusion, hate, division, sadness, depression, murmuring, murder, anger, argument, spite, and strife.

How do we defend the gospel of God?

Defending the doctrine of God starts with knowing the gospel of God and knowing all who God is as it is written in His Word.  How can you possibly defend that which you know nothing about?  God says that we err not knowing His word, or His power.  There is not one person alive today that truly knows all there is to know about God.

You could study the word of God your whole life and only have a glimpse of His majesty and glory.  We are never past finding out.  We can never know all there is to know about our eternal King.

We are to speak boldly and make known the mystery of the Gospel of God (Ephesians 6:19-20).

How to spot other doctrines?

It is easy to spot the other doctrines, the false doctrines, those other doctrines not of God because:

1.  They bring glory to someone other than the one True Living God Almighty      (They promote some man, dead or alive, who is their prophet or leader, in addition to, or other than God).

2.  They contradict the word of God      (Any doctrine that deviates from the word of God is another doctrine, a false doctrine, and NOT of God)

3.  Self promoting instead of promoting Christ      (Promote self, or their religion, or religious beliefs, instead of promoting Christ Jesus)

4.  Promote their teaching is the only way to God      (The firmly believe only their teachings is the way to God)

5.  Have traditions that must be followed to receive salvation      (Vows, traditions, works, rituals, sayings, words, believe certain things must be done in order to receive salvation)

6.  Beliefs are foundationally different than God's doctrine      (as believing there is no heaven, no hell, no assurance of salvation, works are required, etc.)

7.  Promote their doctrine as the word of God      (They actually believe that their doctrine is the word of God)      The truth of God is found in the word of God.

8.  Change the word of God to align with their beliefs      (They add to or subtract words from the word of God to align with their doctrine)

9.  Promote false prophets and/or worship false prophets      (they have a leader who has received a new revelation from God, new info changing His word to conform with their false doctrine)      Not every prophet is from God, many false prophets are in the world today (1 John 4:1).      Who changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature      more than the Creator, who is blessed for ever. Amen.         (Romans 1:25)      A false prophet contradicts the word of God.  A false prophet makes claims that never materialize.  A false prophet is not from God.

10.  Pray to and/or worship someone other than the one true living God       (God says thou shalt have not other gods before me; and we are to pray to and worship the One True Living God)

The way to defend the gospel of God is with:

  1. Love by the love of God
  2. Scripture from the Word of God
  3. The full armour of God
  4. The fruits of the Spirit
  5. Prayer
  6. Knowledge and wisdom from God
  7. Without pride
  8. Diligence
  9. Longsuffering
  10. Christ Jesus

Love by the love of God

We defend the gospel of God with love, love, and more love.

The love of God is powerful and one tool that satan does not have, because God is love.  God is the source of love.

Love truly conquers all.  We should never forget the power that the love of God has over any situation.

At the end of this world, hate will be destroyed, but love will live on throughout eternity.

Scripture from the Word of God

We defend the gospel of God with Scripture from the Word of God.

God's Word, His Holy Scripture is powerful; God says His word is as powerful as a two-edged sword.

For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.  Hebrews 4:12

Jesus Himself, when contending with the devil in the wilderness, defended the truth of God with Scripture.

Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.  Matthew 4:7

We must note that during this confrontation in the wilderness that the devil also quoted God's word.  We must remember that the devil knows the words of God, better than we do.  There are many people who can quote the Scriptures inside and out, verse and chapter, word by word, who are not of God, just like the devil is not of God.

Do not be deceived with mastery of Scripture, because the devil quotes them also.

The difference between the devil and other false teachers, who may be able to quote scripture perfectly, is that they do not have the Word written by God in the fleshly tables of their heart (2 Corinthians 3:3).

Those of us who are born again (John 3:3), who are redeemed by the blood of Christ (Hebrews 9:11-12), sealed with the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13, 4:30), have God dwelling inside of us (John 14:17; Romans 8:11; 1 Corinthians 3:16; Ephesians 3:17; 2 Timothy 1:14; 1 John 4:13; 1 John 4:15; 2 John 1:2).

The devil and his minions are superficial, may appear as an angel of light (2 Corinthians 11:14), they may appear to be godly, they may say they know God (Titus 1:16), but they are in reality sloppy counterfeit copies, fakes, with no substance, with no eternal life in them (John 5:38-40).

The full armour of God

We can defend the gospel of God by putting on the full armour of God.

Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.  Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.  For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.  Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.  And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak.  Ephesians 6:10-20

The fruits of the Spirit

We must defend the gospel of God through proving what is acceptable to Him (not our way, but God's way). Ephesians 5:10

When defending the Gospel of God we must be doing it in all goodness and righteousness and truth.

(For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;)  Ephesians 5:9

Because we are Christ's, when defending the gospel of God we first and foremost must remember we are representing Christ, therefore we must show love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance (Galatians 5:22-26).

We are not defending the Gospel of God for our glory, to be seen by others, but for the glory that belongs to God alone.

Prayer

Prayer is necessary for the defending the gospel of God.  Pray without ceasing.

Before and after anything we do, we should be praying to God, giving Him thanks, praising His name, giving Him the Glory, asking His blessing, seeking His knowledge and guidance, asking for His will be done, wanting His strength and His words to be given to you.

Knowledge and wisdom from God

We can do nothing without God, including defending His Gospel.  We need God to lead us.  We are not leaders of ourselves; we are not the master, because there is only one Master - Jesus Christ our Lord.

We know nothing without God.  We are not wise.  We don't have the words to say, because all things come from God above.  God gives us knowledge and wisdom to accomplish the will of God in our lives.

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.  Matthew 6:33

Without pride

We defend the gospel of God without selfish pride.  Self pride will turn others away from hearing the truth of God.

We cannot defend the gospel of God puffed up with our own self pride.  We must deny ourselves to follow Christ.  Christ must be the light that shines out from us, not ourselves.  Pride stops us from seeking God (Psalm 10:4).

Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.  Proverbs 16:18

Self pride is of this world, not of God (1 John 2:16), we should have nothing to do with pride.

Diligence

We need diligence to defend the gospel of God.

Committed diligence is required to defend the gospel of God.

Just as our salvation in God is eternal and not temporary, so is our defense of the Gospel of God.

Longsuffering

God is merciful, compassionate, forgiving, gracious and longsuffering.  Without the longsuffering of God we would have been destroyed a long time ago, perished from the face of this world forever, without hope, and without life.

God promises His own many wonderful joys and pleasures, but He also promises us suffering.

We will suffer because Christ suffered.  We will suffer because this is the perfect plan of God.

But if we can stay focused on our prize, we can suffer anything, because of the glory that is set before us, the promise of that which is to come, the promise of eternal life in the Kingdom of God with our Lord Jesus forever (Philippians 3:8, 10, 14).

What is this life really?  Nothing but a vapor, when compared to the glory of God, the promise of Heaven, for eye has not seen, not ear heard the things which God has prepared for them who love Him (1 Corinthians 2:9).

For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.  Romans 8:18

For unto you it is given in the behalf of Christ, not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for his sake;  Philippians 1:29

If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:  2 Timothy 2:12

Christ Jesus

We can defend the Gospel of God, because I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.  Philippians 4:13

Everything we do, we are to do all in the name of the Lord Christ Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by Him.

And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.  Colossians 3:17
