The Second Coming

This is a Bible study on the Second Coming of Jesus Christ.    Click here for a printable Bible Study Guide.

In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.  And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know. Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way? Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. John 14:2-6

Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. Revelation 1:7

For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. Romans 14:11

And the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God, and into the patient waiting for Christ. 2 Thessalonians 3:5

Believers are to be ready, watching, waiting, praying, and hoping for the return of Jesus Christ !

What is the Second Coming of Jesus Christ?

Jesus first came from God to earth as a human child, born to the virgin Mary and her spouse Joseph, and lived on earth (Isaiah 9:6l John 8:42; Luke 1:26-33).

The word of God reads that God was manifested in the flesh, the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us (1 Timothy 3:16; John 1:14; Matthew 1:23).

Jesus lived as a man on the earth.  Jesus came to earth so that all the people of this earth could be saved from sin and death.

Jesus brought hope and salvation to all the people of this world.  Jesus came to this earth to destroy sin and death.  Jesus was crucified on a cross and died, for the sins of all the people of this world, and was raised from His grave after three days, so that we too could receive everlasting life, after the grave.  By the crucifixion, the death, the burial, and the resurrection of Christ Jesus, sin and death was destroyed by God.

After the resurrection of Jesus, after multitudes of people physically saw Jesus, in His new resurrected heavenly body, Jesus ascended to Heaven and now sits on the right hand of God, AND one day soon Jesus will return again to earth.

Jesus' coming again is referred to as the second coming of Christ.

Jesus came first to save the world and will come again, a second time to judge the world.

When did Jesus promise to come again to earth?

Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. John 14:1-3

Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father; for my Father is greater than I. John 14:28

And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation. Hebrews 9:28

The word of God tells us all that all the promises of God are always fulfilled.

How do we know Christ Jesus hasn't already returned?

Many false religions state that Christ Jesus has already returned.  Some people today even falsely claim to be the returned Christ.

You can be assured Christ Jesus has NOT yet returned, because we personally have NOT seen Him

Yes, the word of God tells us that we will ALL see Him return to earth.  Every person on this planet will see the return of Christ Jesus.  How is that possible?  He is God, and with God ALL things are possible!  (Matthew 19:26; Mark 10:27)

All the people of all the world will see the return of Christ Jesus.

Behold, he cometh with clouds; and every eye shall see him, and they also which pierced him: and all kindreds of the earth shall wail because of him. Even so, Amen. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. Revelation 1:8-9

How is it possible for "every eye to see Him"?  With God ALL things are possible.

But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible. Matthew 19:26

Through faith in God, we believe in Jesus Christ for our salvation; and, we are saved from sin and death.

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Ephesians 2:8

For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. Romans 8:2

Through faith, we believe all that God says.  We believe in His Holy word, we believe Jesus Christ will come in the clouds, and every eye shall see Him!

But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him. Hebrews 11:6

What is the date of the second coming?

The word of God tells us that no man knows the day or hour of Christ's return, only God the Father knows.

But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only. Matthew 24:36

Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come. Matthew 24:42

Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh. Matthew 24:44

Watch therefore, for ye know neither the day nor the hour wherein the Son of man cometh. Matthew 25:13

For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. 1 Thessalonians 5:2

The scriptures tell us of certain events that must take place before the return of Christ.

And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. Matthew 24:14

The word of God reads His word will be preached in all the world and then the end will come.

Today the gospel of the kingdom is preached in all the world.

When all the scriptures are fulfilled then shall the end come and Jesus will return to reign over all the earth.

How does God measure time?

Time was made by God for man.  God is without limits, without measurement, without time. God is timeless.

God does not need to measure time, but God does measure time for mankind.  God does not need time to exist, God exists without time.

God is eternal (Deuteronomy 33:27; Romans 16:26).  God has no beginning and God has no end.  God is the beginning and the end (Revelation 21:6, 22:13).

For our limited mind understanding, God gave man time and explained that time with God is greater than we can imagine.

God says, 1 day is as a 1,000 years and 1,000 years is as 1 day.

1 day is as a 1,000 years and 1,000 years is as 1 day.

But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. 2 Peter 3:8

Eternity with God is endless, timeless, limitless.

With our limited mind, we cannot begin to comprehend living a thousand years, because we are now physically limited to living maybe 90 years on this earth.

Our lifespan of maybe 90 years, is but a vapor compared to eternity.

Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. James 4:14

When is the end of the world?

And as he sat upon the mount of Olives, the disciples came unto him privately, saying, Tell us, when shall these things be? and what shall be the sign of thy coming, and of the end of the world? And Jesus answered and said unto them, Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many. And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. Then shall they deliver you up to be afflicted, and shall kill you: and ye shall be hated of all nations for my name's sake. And then shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another. And many false prophets shall rise, and shall deceive many. And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. Matthew 24:3-14

Jesus is with us always even unto the end of the world

Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen. Matthew 28:20

The End is soon.

But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. 1 Peter 4:7

What events precede the Second Coming of Christ?

The events leading up to the Second Coming of Christ will occur during the Tribulation.

For more information see - the Tribulation

Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:  And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other. Matthew 24:29-31

Who will be with Jesus when He returns to reign on earth?

Christ Jesus will return to earth with 10,000s of His saints, and His angels (Jude 1:14-15; Revelation 19:14).  All His saints will be with Him and all His angels (Matthew 25:31).

And Enoch also, the seventh from Adam, prophesied of these, saying, Behold, the Lord cometh with ten thousands of his saints, To execute judgment upon all, and to convince all that are ungodly among them of all their ungodly deeds which they have ungodly committed, and of all their hard speeches which ungodly sinners have spoken against him. Jude 1:14-15

Everyone will see this event.  Every eye ever created will see the second coming of Christ to earth.  No believer will be absent for this exceedingly great event.

All the saints of God will see the glorious return of Christ, coming to earth to destroy the antichrist, and all the ungodly, and reign.

How will Jesus return to earth?

And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eyes were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, KING OF KINGS, AND LORD OF LORDS. Revelation 19:11

What will happen at the Second Coming of Christ?

Jesus will gather to Him all the tribulation saints (Matthew 24:30; Mark 13:27).

Jesus will descend from Heaven to judge and to make war against the ungodly (Revelation 19:11).

Jesus will destroy the antichrist with the brightness of His coming (2 Thessalonians 2:8).

Jesus will execute judgment upon all the ungodly (Jude 1:14-15).

And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh. Revelation 19:19-21

Jesus will separate the just from the unjust on earth (Matthew 13:40-43, 45-50).

When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory: And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats: And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left. Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels: And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. Matthew 25:31-34, 41, 46

The unjust, the unbelieving, will not be prepared for this event and be enraged (Revelation 11:18).

All the saints and angels of Christ will rejoice (Revelation 19:1-8)

And after these things I heard a great voice of much people in heaven, saying, Alleluia; Salvation, and glory, and honour, and power, unto the Lord our God: Revelation 19:1

Satan will be bound (Revelation 20:1-3).

Jesus will reign for 1,000 years with all His saints (Revelation 20:4).

All God's children will have rest (2 Thessalonians 1:7).

For more information see - the Millennium

What will happen at the end of the world?

The wicked will be severed from the just

So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. Matthew 13:49-50

Believers in Christ who endure unto the end shall be saved

And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. Matthew 10:22

But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. Matthew 24:13

And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. Mark 13:13

Believers must hold firm onto our faith unto the end

But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. Hebrews 3:6

For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; Hebrews 3:14

Hope to the end

Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ; 1 Peter 1:13

What is the End of the world?

The end of the world as we know it.

The word of God reads that one day the earth will end, pass away.

Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. Matthew 24:35

Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. Mark 13:31

Heaven and earth shall pass away: but my words shall not pass away. Luke 21:33

The earth as we know it will be destroyed and God will give us a new heaven and a new earth.

And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea. Revelation 21:1

What will happen in the End of the world?

Judgment and then either               Everlasting Life with God                     - or -  Everlasting Death without God.

When we are saved, through faith in Jesus Christ, we are made free from sin and death and will receive in the end everlasting life.

But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:22-23

But if we continue in sin we will receive everlasting death, because the wages of sin is death.
