Sin AFTER Salvation

This is a Bible study on Sin AFTER Salvation.     Click here for a printable Bible Study Guide.

Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. 2 Timothy 2:19

This study is regarding sin after salvation.    If you are NOT saved, please see - SALVATION

Where did our sins go when we received salvation?

God says that we must be born again, saved, to be with Him.

Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. John 3:3

We are saved by the grace of God through faith in God.

For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Ephesians 2:8

By the grace of God, the very moment that we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Saviour, Master over all our lives, the instant we confess to God that we are a sinner and ask Him for His forgiveness of our sins, and when we repent of our sins, in that instant of unwavering faith and belief in God we are saved

When we are saved, by the grace of God through faith in God, ALL our sins are removed.

When we are saved, by asking Jesus to forgive us of all our sins and repent of sin, by His shed blood ALL our sins are purged.

Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high; Hebrews 1:3

Through the gift of God of salvation by believing on His Son, Jesus Christ, we receive remission of ALL sins.

Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; Romans 3:25

Salvation cleanses us from all sin that we have committed in the past.

But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin. 1 John 1:7

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

Salvation releases us from the bondage of sin.  We are no longer bound to sin.

By belief in God, through Jesus, we put on Christ.  By putting on Christ Jesus we receive the power of God to cease sinning.

Christ overcame sin and death for all the people of the world on the cross at Calvary.  He sacrificed His life, He laid down His life once for all of us.  We are sanctified to God through Christ, to set us free from sin and death.  Through the resurrection of Christ Jesus from the grave to life, we to can receive everlasting life.  We can overcome sin, because Christ overcame sin and death.

By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. Hebrews 10:10

So where are our sins?  They are all gone.  When we receive salvation, our past sins are removed, as far away as the east is from the west.

As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. Psalm 103:12

All our past sins are gone when we receive God's gift of salvation.  ALL our sins are gone.  They are all gone and God remembers them no more.  They are forgotten by Christ Jesus.  God will never bring them up again.

What is sin after salvation?

This discussion is regarding sin after salvation.

When we are saved, all our past sins are forgiven and dissolved by God, from us forever.

The problem is that until we, as the children of God, still live here in this sinful, lustful, wicked world.

How can we stay pure, in an impure world?  How can we live righteously with the unrighteous?  How can we live sin free?

When we are saved, our sins have been forgiven and we have repented of sin.  For salvation we have turned our back on sin.  We turn away from sin and turn our lives to God, when we are saved.

Christ died on the cross, He was crucified and died for our sins.  So that our sins could be removed and we could be reconciled to God, permitted to live with God for eternity after we die.  Christ rose from the grave to eternal life.  By believing in Jesus, we too can receive eternal life, through salvation.

Christ gave us a way out from underneath the bondage of sin.  Christ gave us freedom from sin.  Christ gave us victory over sin and death, through salvation.

If we sin after Jesus died for our sins, what are we sayingHis death was in vain?  God forbid.

Don't think for a second that God wants us to sin, after His Son died for our sins.  God does NOT want us to sin.  God wants us to live a righteous life and receive everlasting abundant life in the Kingdom of God.  God tells us in His word to SIN NOT.

Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame. 1 Corinthians 15:34

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 1 John 2:1-4

Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. Romans 6:12-14

What then? shall we sin, because we are not under the law, but under grace? God forbid. Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness? But God be thanked, that ye were the servants of sin, but ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you. Being then made free from sin, ye became the servants of righteousness. Romans 6:15-18

We either live for God or we live for sin, no one can live for both.

Why do we sin after salvation?

When we are saved and we confess our sins to God, asking Him for forgiveness and turning away from sin, we receive Christ Jesus as our personal Lord and Saviour over all parts of our lives.

We surrender all to God and accept Him as the new ruler and Master over our lives.  We turn our backs on our old life of sin, and turn to God and live in righteousness, by following Christ Jesus.

When we are saved, all our sins are purged, removed from us and God does not remember them any more.

Through salvation we are separated from this sinful world, and we are separated unto God.  But until we leave this world, we will be subject to sin.

God says we are NOT to sin.

As the children of God, we are NOT to sin.  God goes as far as to say that His children cannot sin, because He lives inside of us.

As long as satan is in this world there will be sin.  Until God permanently removes satan, we will be tempted to sin.

God says that all unrighteousness is sin.

Temptation is not sin, but yielding to temptation is sin.  Knowing about sin is not sin, but participating in sin is sin.  And purposely viewing sin is sin.

For more information see - SIN

We are unable to completely live sinless until we receive our perfect heavenly incorruptible bodies and are removed from this sinful world.  Other people do not cause us to sin, we are born with a sinful nature.  If we lived on a deserted island, away from all people and civilization, we would still sin.

So are we unable to stop sinning?  Yes and no.  Yes, we can through the strength and the power of God stop purposefully sinning, but we cannot stop inadvertently sinning, because we are in our natural flesh bodies.

We cannot stop inadvertently sinning because we are in our natural bodies, still in the flesh.

God promises all His children that we can stop purposefully sinning, living for sin, serving sin, planning sin and purposefully participating in sin.  God Himself gives us His power to stop sinning.

When we are saved, we put on Christ, we can live righteously because of Christ.

We are able to do all things through Christ, that God wants us to, through the strength of Christ Jesus.  This includes NOT sinning.

I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.  Philippians 4:13

What is remission of sins?

Remission of sins is the removal of our sins, forgiveness for all sins we have committed in our lives.

When we receive salvation we receive remission of our sins, all our sins are gone.

Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; Romans 3:24-25

When we ask Jesus to be our personal Lord and Saviour of our life and ask Jesus to forgive us our sins, Jesus forgives all of our sins.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

When we are truly saved, we receive total and complete remission of our sins.

To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. Acts 10:43

Jesus shed his blood on the cross in order for all the sin of the world could be forgiven.

For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. Matthew 26:28

Without shedding of blood there is no remission

And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission. Hebrews 9:22

Only through faith and believing in the name of Jesus Christ can anyone receive remission of sins.

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38

When we are saved ALL our past sins are purged, the slate is wiped clean, we are cleansed, purified from ALL the sins we have committed in our lifetime.

God is sinless, God is righteous, no one can enter the kingdom of God, the realm of God who is not righteous.

Only the righteous can inherit the kingdom of God.  We receive righteousness through Christ Jesus, by our faith in God.

We all have sin.  All unrighteous is sin.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23

All have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Wages of sin is death.  The end of sin is death.

The only way to receive eternal life is to be sinless.  There is not any sacrifice that we could ever make to God that could remove all the sin from our life.

This is why God sent His only begotten Son into the world, to be the sacrifice for the sins of the whole world.

Jesus was sinless and pure and by the shedding of His blood on the cross He paid the price of the world's sin.

For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him. 2 Corinthians 5:21

And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. 1 John 3:5

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's. 1 Corinthians 6:20

Now anyone who believes in Jesus can receive salvation - the removal, remission of sins and become pure and cleansed from sin and receive eternal life.

What about sinning 'after' salvation?

After we are saved by the grace of God through faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God, we are not to sin any more.

Did you know after you are saved, God says we are not to sin anymore?

We are saved by the grace of God through faith.  We are saved by believing in God, believing in the truth of God, believing in the promises of God.  Salvation sets us free from sin and death.  Through salvation we are given freedom, freedom in Christ Jesus to put on the righteousness of God.

God hates sin.  God does not want His children to be bound to sin in anyway.  When we commit sin, we attach ourselves to sin, we become bound to sin.  Christ died on His cross to pay the penalty of our sins and purchased our freedom with His life, so that we could be set free from the bondage of sin and death.

You cannot believe the promise of God and violate the principle of God.  If we believe the promise of salvation, then we should not violate the principle of salvation, which is victory over sin.

Why do Christians sin?

There are two types of sin after salvation:

  • Sin caused by the fall of man
  • Sin on purpose, willful sin

Inherit Sin

Sin entered this world through satan into the first man God created, named Adam.

The power of sin was destroyed from this world through the Son of man, Christ Jesus.

When we are saved by believing on Jesus, the Son of God, our sins are washed away, we are born again.

We receive victory over sin through Christ Jesus.  We are no longer bound to sin, because of the work Christ Jesus did on His cross.   The power of Christ is greater than the power of satan.   Satan uses his power of sin to turn the hearts of men away from God.

Jesus paid for our sins by shedding His blood on His cross at Calvary.

When we accept Jesus as our personal Lord and Saviour over our life, we are redeemed from our sins and receive the gift of God, which is eternal life.

After salvation, God's plan for us is to remain sin free - righteous - which is not possible in a sinful world that we live in, except by living in Christ.

God gave us a direct link to Him through Jesus, His Son.

Jesus Christ is our advocate, so we can communicate directly with God and ask Him for the power, Christ's power, to overcome sin in our lives, and ask forgiveness of our sins and repent of our sins when we commit them.

As a believer, when we sin against God, it should break our hearts.  When we sin, as believers, we grieve the Holy Spirit living inside us.  The Holy Spirit convicts us of our sin.  Sin weighs down our heart with sorrow.

As believers, we must immediately pray and ask God for forgiveness of our sin, with our whole broken heart, with godly sorrow we must confess our sin and repent of that sin.

True repentance is promising God that you will not commit that sin again.  True repentance is not repeating the same sin.

God will give you the strength to truly repent of your sin, if you ask Him.  Have faith in God, not in yourself.

All things are possible with God !!

And Jesus looking upon them saith, With men it is impossible, but not with God: for with God all things are possible. Mark 10:27

As believers, God wants us to remain sinless, blameless and with a pure conscience until the return of Jesus.

What is willful sin ?

When we sin on purpose, this is willful sin

When we are fully aware it is our will to sin, we are willfully sinning

When we plan sin out, think it out, make time to sin, schedule it out in our day this is willful sinning.  We make a date with the devil to participate in sin.

When we are saved, the Holy Ghost lives inside of us and helps us see sinOur Holy Ghost convicts us of sin.

When we recognize sin, God says we are to run away from sin, depart from sin

Depart from sin; depart from evil

And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding. Job 28:28

Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, and pursue it. Psalm 34:14

Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore. Psalm 37:27

Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil. Proverb 3:7

The desire accomplished is sweet to the soul: but it is abomination to fools to depart from evil. Proverbs 13:19

By mercy and truth iniquity is purged: and by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil. Proverbs 16:6

The highway of the upright is to depart from evil: he that keepeth his way preserveth his soul. Proverbs 16:17

When we recognize sin, know it is sin and sin deliberately and on purpose, rejecting the voice of the Holy Ghost to stop before sinning, this is  willfully sinning.

For if we sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins, But a certain fearful looking for of judgment and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know him that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, The Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Hebrews 10:26-31

Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompense of reward. For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise. For yet a little while, and he that shall come will come, and will not tarry. Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. Hebrews 10:35-39

What is the unforgiven sin?

If you continue to willfully sin, if you continue to silence the voice of the Holy Ghost inside your heart and when you don't care that you are offending God, there are severe consequences to your actions.

God is the God of mercy, but He will not be mocked.

There is a point of no returning to God.  This is not because God will not forgive you, but because you will not return to God.

Blasphemy against the Holy Ghost is the sin that shall not be forgiven of men.

Wherefore I say unto you, All manner of sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven unto men: but the blasphemy against the Holy Ghost shall not be forgiven unto men. And whosoever speaketh a word against the Son of man, it shall be forgiven him: but whosoever speaketh against the Holy Ghost, it shall not be forgiven him, neither in this world, neither in the world to come. Matthew 12:31-32

When we choose to forsake God, abandon our faith in God, deny Christ Jesus, quench the Holy Spirit, disown God, to the point of no returning to God, this is blasphemy against the Holy Ghost and is not forgiven.  This point of no return is known by God.  There is no turning back to God after you have stepped across this line.

Who has committed blasphemy against the Holy Ghost?  God's beloved angel, named lucifer (who is now called satan), committed blasphemy against the Holy Ghost and was banished from the Kingdom of God for all eternity.   All the angels that followed the lies of lucifer, were also thrown out of the Kingdom of God, reserved in everlasting chains, until the great day of judgment.  These all have the same eternal destiny, which is the lake of fire, eternal damnation.

What makes saved people sin willfully?

Living in the world, and NOT living in Christ

Sin is of the world; sin is not of God.

If we stay living in Christ, instead of living in the sinful world, we will stay away from sin.

If we live without the world, we can live without sin.

If our focus is on Christ, our focus will not be on sin.

It is easy to stay away from sin, if you don't live with sin.

Believers are not of this world, we are children of God.

As Christ is not of the world neither are believers of the world.

We may live in this world, but we are not of this world, we are of God.  We live for God, we live for righteousness, not for sin.

Evil heart of unbelief

The word of God reads an evil heart of unbelief is departing from the living God.

Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. Hebrews 3:12

Unbelief in God for salvation separates anyone from God.

Deceitfulness of sin

But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin. Hebrews 3:13

The scriptures say that through the deceitfulness of sin our hearts are hardened.

Turn from obeying God; Harden your Heart

When we do not obey God, we turn from God and harden our hearts toward God.

O come, let us worship and bow down: let us kneel before the LORD our maker.  For he is our God; and we are the people of his pasture, and the sheep of his hand. To day if ye will hear his voice,  Harden not your heart, as in the provocation, and as in the day of temptation in the wilderness: Psalm 95:6-8

Happy is the man that feareth alway: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief. Proverbs 28:14

But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end.  Wherefore (as the Holy Ghost saith, To day if ye will hear his voice,  Harden not your hearts, as in the provocation, in the day of temptation in the wilderness: Hebrews 3:6-8

While it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts, as in the provocation. Hebrews 3:15

Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts. Hebrews 4:7

Letting go of our faith

We are partners of Christ and we must hold onto our confidence we had at the beginning of our salvation, stedfast to the end.

For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end; Hebrews 3:14

When we let go of our faith in Jesus Christ, we will stumble and fall.

Like the story of Jesus walking on the water, when Peter came out of the boat and walked to Jesus on the water.

As long as Peter had focus, had his eyes on Jesus, he was walking on water.  But the second he let go of his faith, he began to sink.

Of course, Peter yelled to Christ for help and Jesus helped him, saved him from drowning.

Jesus does the same for us, when we lose our focus, when we take our eyes off of God and we begin to sink into a sinful life.

Jesus is always there to keep us from drowning in sin, all we have to do is ask for His help.

Believers must grow their faith every day.  We must work out our faith every day.

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17

We sin when we do not know God's word

The more of the word of God we have in us, the less likely we are to sin.

Jesus answered and said unto them, Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the power of God. Matthew 22:29

The more of the word of God we have in our hearts, the less likely we are to sin.

We must study the word of God.  We must build a time for bible study in our lives.

When we love anything more than God

For the love of money is the root of all evil: which while some coveted after, they have erred from the faith, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows. 1 Timothy 6:10

When we love anything more than God, we shift our hope in something or someone other than God.  We are not to place anything or anyone above God.  Thou shalt have no other gods before Me, is one the 10 commandments.  Idolatry is sin against God and is not necessarily an image, but can be anything that we think is greater than God, other people, other things, other activities, money, possessions, anything.

When we focus on ourselves

When we focus on ourselves other than God we will fall into sin.

Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:  But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.  Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.  Do not err, my beloved brethren. James 1:13-16

What is 'living in Christ'?

Living in Christ is following the ways of Christ, not just in word, but in deed.

Living in Christ is following the gospel of Christ.  We can only follow the gospel of Christ, if we know what it is, we know what it is by reading, studying, meditating, learning and living the word of God.

Living in Christ is having the mind of Christ, thinking with our heart, a heart turned to Christ, and not compromising with the world.

Living in Christ is producing the fruits of the Spirit of God.

Living in Christ is abiding in the love of God, in every situation, every minute of every day, all the days of our life.

Living in Christ is seeing all men equal, treating all people equal, having no prejudices, as God is no respecter of persons.

Living in Christ is following the laws of God because we love them, and because we love God.

Living in Christ is loving all people, love is of God, God is love, we are to love all people and show the world the love of our God.

Living in Christ is letting others see Christ in you, through you, by you, with you.  Everything we do should be done to the glory of our God.

Living in Christ is lovingly and gently guiding others to Him.

Living in Christ is standing firm in faith toward God, not wavering, all the days of our lives. We are to defend our faith by the love of God in us.

Living in Christ is serving Christ in everyway, all the days of your life.  Believers of Christ are to be the servants of Christ in every way.

Living in Christ is giving forgiveness to all people for all things.  We can forgive all people for all things, because Christ forgave us.

Living in Christ is showing compassion, in an uncompassionate world.

Living in Christ is living in truth, by truth, of truth.  Upholding truth, and being truthful in everything we do, no matter what.

Living in Christ is doing what is right, even when no one knows.

Living in Christ is praising God, rejoicing in God, worshiping God, in spite of our circumstances.

Living in Christ is being content in whatever state I am in.

Living in Christ is giving of ourselves to the needs of others for no reward, expecting nothing in return.

Living in Christ is seeking God first in all that we do, listening to God, and waiting on God's answer to guide us in all we do.

Living in Christ is placing God first in our lives.  Nothing and no one comes before God in our lives.

Living in Christ is loving God with all our heart, with all our soul, with all our mind, and with all our strength and loving others better than ourselves.

Living in Christ is abiding in the will of God forever.

Does God really expect us NOT to sin?

Yes, God expects us NOT to sin.  God goes even further and says that His children cannot sin.  Why?  Because we are His own.

God never gives us instruction to do, that He doesn't give us the grace to perform.

God will always give us the power to complete the tasks that He gives us.  Greater is He (God) that is in me, than he (satan) that is in this world.

The power of God is greater than the power of sin.

God expects us NOT to sin, because of His love for us and our love toward HimWe love Him because He first loved us.

Because of His love for us, Jesus died for all the sins of the world.

Because He loved us so much, Jesus was tortured, beaten, whipped, scorned, for us, for our sins, so that we could be set free from sin and death.

Because of the love of God, the flesh was ripped from the body of our Lord God to pay the price for our sins.

Because He loved us before we loved Him, Jesus who never sinned, never committed one infraction against anyone, sacrificed His life, gave His own life for us, so that we could receive eternal life in Heaven.

Because of His love, Jesus stepped in our shoes, stood in our rightful place, stood in our place and took on our sins and shame, bore our sins on His cross, so that we might live abundantly in the Kingdom of Heaven for all eternity.

Because of His love for us, Jesus bore the sins of all mankind, gave His own life as a sacrifice once for all people, so that we could receive everlasting life in the Kingdom of God.

Jesus loved us so much that He paid the price for our eternal freedom, our eternal victory over sin and death.  We are all set free from the bondage of sin and death, because of His love for us, because Christ's one sacrifice for all people.

We have victory in Jesus over sin and death through the price He paid that one day on the cross.  Where He shed His blood, that one sacrifice once for all the sins of all mankind.  Where He rose up from the grave, resurrected into everlasting life, so that we too, though faith in Him might receive the same eternal life in the Kingdom of God forever.

How can we show God we love Him?

Do we love God?  Do we thank God for His sacrifice, His crucifixion, His death, His resurrection, His gift of salvation?  How do we thank God for all the miracles that He has given us?  How do we show God just how much we love Him?  How do we show God how much we appreciate His loving us enough to care about our lives, care about our eternal soul?  How do we love God with all our heart, with all our soul, and with all mind, and with all our strength?

We can show God how much He means to us, just how much we truly love Him, how grateful we are to Him for all His many gifts in our lives, how much we thank Jesus for His sacrifice, dying for our sins, showing us His resurrection to life, so that we might have everlasting life, by our obedience to all His words.

Our obedience to His Holy words, is how we can show our love for our most precious Lord and Saviour, the Most High God.

Because we love and respectfully fear the Lord God, we will NOT sin.

And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not. Exodus 20:20

Do you 'stand in awe of your Lord God'?  God is so wonderful we should stand in awe of Him every day.

When we submit ourselves to God and resist the devil we can avoid sin, through the power of Christ, which is given to all the saints of God.

When our focus remains on Christ we will avoid sin.  When our focus, our eyes, turn away from God that is when we fall into sin.

We are to offer the sacrifices of righteousness and put our trust in the LORD.

But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him.  Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.  Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD. Psalm 4:3-5

We live in a wicked and sinful world, we must purposely take heed to our ways that we sin not.  We must make an effort to live in righteousness and not live in sin.

I said, I will take heed to my ways, that I sin not with my tongue: I will keep my mouth with a bridle, while the wicked is before me. Psalm 39:1

Wake up!  This is your life, and you alone are responsible for the choices that you make!

We must awake to righteousness and sin not.  We must consciously pursue to live in righteousness and sin not.  We must consciously seek God and His kingdom of righteousness.

Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame. 1 Corinthians 15:34

We are to be angry at sin, get angry at the devil for trying to steal your life, be angry and sin not.  Never give any place to the devil in your life through sin.  God does not want the sun to set with sin in our life, get rid of it, ask for forgiveness of sin before you go to sleep, don't let one day go by with sin still in your life.

Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath:  Neither give place to the devil. Ephesians 4:26-27

The word of God was written for the whole world to understand God.  The word of God is God's revelation of Himself to humankind.  As believers of Christ Jesus we are God's little children.  God said that these things He wrote to us, His little children, that we sin NOT.

God does not want any of His own children to sin, and lose their reward in Heaven.

God said if any person sins, that we as His own children have an advocate through Christ Jesus, who is the righteous.

Jesus is the propitiation for all our sins, and for all the sins of all the world.

God goes on to say that this is how that we know for sure that we know Him, IF we keep His commandments

God says that if we say that we know Him, but we DON'T keep His commandments, that we are a liar and the truth is not in us.

All unrighteousness is sin: and there is a sin not unto death.  We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.  And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.  And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life. 1 John 5:17-20

How can I avoid sinning against God?

God tells us in His word how to avoid sinning against Him.  God promises that if we submit ourselves to Him completely, and we resist the devil, that satan will flee from us.

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. James 4:7

So how do we resist the devil?  By submitting ourselves to God, we are able through the power of God to resist the devil.

Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded. James 4:8

When we seek God, God promises us that we will find Him.  God promises that if we draw close to Him that He will draw close to us.  We must cleanse ourselves daily from sin, purify our hearts by keeping our thoughts on Christ.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 1 Peter 5:8

God tells us in His Holy word, that we are to be sober, be vigilant, guarding our faith, because the devil, our adversary, is like a roaring lion, walking among us, looking, searching, seeking whom he can devour, destroy.

"How to" do everything is given to us by God in His word.  God answers all our questions, by His Word.  God gave us His word so that we might understand Him, understand His truth, receive His salvation, and be able to live with Him for all eternity.  The Word of God is our instruction book for our life, how to get the most out of our life, how to use our life, how to live our life, everything we ever wanted to know about us is in God's Word.  Freely given to all people for understanding and wisdom.

What is a backslider?

A backslider is a saved believer of Christ who slides back into sin through unbelief.   A person must have been in faith to now slide from faith (backslider), therefore we know that a backslider was at onetime a saved believer of Christ Jesus.

A backslider is one who has abandoned their faith in God, they are faithless.

The faithless, the unbelieving, are all who have turned their hearts away from God, abandoned their faith in God by being filled with their own selfish ways.  Such people will reap what they sow.  The faithless will receive in the end the wages for their decision of unbelief, which is death, because the wages of sin is death.

Why do people backslide into sin?  God says because man is filled with his own selfish ways, he slips back into sin and unbelief.

We sin when we take our focus off of Christ.  We either magnify God, or we magnify our self, but we can't do both.

The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself. Proverbs 14:14

The children of God live by faith.  We remain steadfast in our faith to God.  We hold onto our faith, no matter what is happening around us, we believe in the saving of our soul, is by the grace of God through faith in God.

Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.  But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. Hebrews 10:38-39

A backslider can be reconciled to God through faith.  If a backsliders abandons sin and unbelief, they can be forgiven and reconciled to God.

How does God forgive my sins after I am saved?

When we are saved all are sins are washed clean away by the blood of Christ. God remembers those past sins no more, they are forgiven and forgotten, never to be brought up again, they are completely washed away by the sacrifice of Jesus, by the shedding of His blood on the cross at Calvary.

After we are saved we are not to sin again.  But since we live in a world of sin, it is impossible not to sin.  The children of God do NOT purposefully sin, plan sin, live in sin, but sin will happen inadvertently until we are taken from this sinful world and are with our Lord God in Heaven.

If we advertently sin, we need a way for God to forgive us of our new sins, so that we can become righteous in the eyes of God.

Jesus paid the price for our sins, and the sins of the world, when He was crucified on the cross.  We cannot expect Jesus to die again on the cross every time we sin.  The crucifixion on the cross was a one-time payment for all the sins of the world.

Jesus is our advocate

So how are we forgiven of sin after we are saved?  The scriptures tell us that we have an advocate through Jesus to God.  When we sorrowfully confess our sins to Jesus and repent of our sins, Jesus will forgive us of our sins.

My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous:  And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. 1 John 2:1-2

Confession of sin and repentance of sin, will continue in the life of every believer of Christ, until we die and are with our Lord God in Heaven, or when the Lord Jesus returns, which ever comes first.

Confess our sin

When we sin after we are saved, we are to confess our sins and sorrowfully repent our sins, turn away from sinning and God will forgive us.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9

Repent of sin

Repenting of sin is NOT confessing your sin, repentance is turning away from sin, it is forsaking sin, turning away from sin and turning to God

Repenting is saying 'no' to serving sin, and 'yes' to serving God.  We either serve sin or we serve God, no one can serve both.

Sinners need repentance.  All sinners need repentance.

When Jesus heard it, he saith unto them, They that are whole have no need of the physician, but they that are sick: I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Mark 2:17

The righteous do not need repentance; sinners need repentance.

I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance. Luke 5:32

The unrepentant will perish

Here the scriptures say repent or perish.  God says, "except you repent, you will perish, die".

I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. Luke 13:3

God wants His message of repentance and remission of sins preached in His name among all nations.

And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. Luke 24:47

God says we must repent in order to blot out our sins.

Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord; Acts 3:19

Only godly, full-hearted sorrow works true repentance.

For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. 2 Corinthians 7:10

And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth;  And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will. 2 Timothy 2:24-26

When we sin, God says that we are caught up in the snare of the devil.  When we sin, we are taken captive by the devil at the devil's will.

Remember the devil is always prowling around looking for his next victim.

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: 1 Peter 5:8

Repentance gives believers clarity of the truth, so we will not sin.

When sinners repent, God pulls us from the snare of the devil, we no longer do the will of the devil - sin, but the will of God - righteousness.

Repentance renews

If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame. Hebrews 6:1

Through repentance, believers are renewed again into their salvation

God doesn't want anyone to perish, but all to repent

The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. 2 Peter 3:9

It is the will of God that all people repent and that none should perish.

We are to turn away from sin

To open their eyes, and to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan unto God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins, and inheritance among them which are sanctified by faith that is in me. Acts 26:18

But shewed first unto them of Damascus, and at Jerusalem, and throughout all the coasts of Judaea, and then to the Gentiles, that they should repent and turn to God, and do works meet for repentance. Acts 26:20

When we repent we turn from Satan back to God and receive forgiveness for our sins.

Only when we repent of a sin, can we receive forgiveness for that sin.

If we ask Jesus for forgiveness of a sin and keep practicing that sin, we have not repented of that sin.

If we keep practicing a sin, we have NOT repented of that sin.

The only way we can receive forgiveness of a sin is to quit practicing that sin.  Repentance is when we stop doing sin.

Repentance is NOT confessing of a sin and asking Jesus for forgiveness for a sin and then picking up that sin again, repeating the same sin

Repentance is throwing away the sin that we confess to Jesus and ask Jesus to forgive.

What does it mean to endure until the end?

After we are saved, we are righteous and sin free, God says we are to remain righteous until Christ returns, or until we die (which ever comes first).

The only way to stay righteous is to obey God and follow Christ and walk in the ways of the Lord, remain faithful, study the word of God, worship and praise God and pray without ceasing.

Salvation is only promised to those in Christ who endure until the end.  The faithful in Christ Jesus will be saved.

The difference between the lost and the saved is faith in God.  Believers have faith in God, unbelievers do not have faith in God.  You must have faith in God to see God in His Kingdom when you die.  The unbelieving, the unfaithful will not see God, but will be separated from God for all eternity.

The saved, the believers of Christ Jesus must endure until the end of their life, we must hold onto our faith until the end of our life.  Salvation is not temporary, our faith in God must endure until the end of our lives to receive eternal life.  If we let go of our faith, if we throw away our faith in God, if we abandon God, if we deny God, God will deny us.  If we depart from our faith in God, we depart from the inheritance of the Kingdom of God.

Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils; 1 Timothy 4:1

If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us 2 Timothy 2:12

God will never force anyone to love Him or have faith in Him, it is our choice to have faith in God.  The unbelieving, those people without faith in God, will not see God.

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Revelation 21:8

Unbelief separates anyone from God for eternity.

So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief. Hebrews 3:19

Believers who endure to the end shall be saved.

And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that endureth to the end shall be saved. Matthew 10:22

But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. Matthew 24:13

And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. Mark 13:13

Our destiny is not in this world; Our destiny is the kingdom of God.

Planet earth is not my home, but the Kingdom of God, Heaven is my home.

We should all be working out our own salvation, working toward righteousness and knowledge of God, and seeking the kingdom of God - our final destination

Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. John 6:27

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. James 1:12

As a good soldier of Christ we are to endure all things for Christ's sake, hold onto our faith until the end of our lives or until Christ Jesus returns, which ever comes first.  We are to believe all things that God has given us in His Holy word.

Beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. 1 Corinthians 13:7

Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. 2 Timothy 2:3

Therefore I endure all things for the elect's sakes, that they may also obtain the salvation which is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory. 2 Timothy 2:10

And so, after he had patiently endured, he obtained the promise. Hebrews 6:15

As believers, we can endure all things for the joy set before us in the kingdom of God.

Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God. Hebrews 12:2

Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. James 1:12

I press toward the mark, for the prize, of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.  I pray I stay focused on Christ Jesus, focused on God and my home in Heaven.

Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,  press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. Philippians 3:13-14

For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: Philippians 3:20
