This is a Bible study on Worship. Click here for a printable Bible Study Guide.
The dictionary defines worship as reverence paid to a divine being or supernatural power, respect, worthiness; reverence offered or expressed to a divine being; a form of religious practice; devotion. What is your definition of worship? What do you consider worship? Is singing a couple of songs at a church - worship? Is worship singing, or is worship prayer, or is it both? Is reading the Holy Bible worship? Is repeating a mantra, prayer or saying - worship? The scripture at the beginning of this page (John 4:23-24), reads God is seeking true worshippers. Are you a true worshipper? Is God seeking you? Let's look at what the Holy Word of God tells us about worship.
We are to worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.
The word of God reads that we are to:
We are the ones who are to give to the LORD, and bring an offering, and come before God, we are to worship the LORD in the beauty of His holiness. Worshipping God is giving our worship to God. God alone is worthy of our worship. Worshipping God is bringing an offering of ourselves, submitting to His will, giving our worship to Him, telling Him we love Him, how much we love Him, giving ourselves completely to God. Worshipping God is giving our worship unto God the glory due His name. Worshipping God is seeking God - going to Him, entering His presence via our spirit to His Spirit - our spirit to His Spirit - spirit to Spirit fellowship connection. Our spirit meets the Spirit of God - our spirit comes to God. Worshiping God is coming before God with a pure heart, all for Him, coming to Him, leaving self behind. Abandoning all self, abandoning thoughts and cares of this world, abandoning all distraction, totally submersed into the Spirit of God. Worshipping God is about God. Worshipping is all about God, not ourselves, not what we need, but what we can give to God, giving glory due His name. Worshipping God is NOT about us. We are to abandon self, forget about cares and worries of this world, we are to worship the Lord in the beauty of holiness. Worshipping God is all about God, worshipping our Lord and Savior for who He is, for all He is, because He is God.
Are you a true worshipper of God? What does that mean?
The hour is NOW! The hour cometh and now is the time - today - God the Father seeketh - is seeking today - true worshippers - to worship Him. Today - right now - God is seeking true worshippers to worship Him in spirit and in truth. True worshippers of God worship God every day. The occasion to worship God is right now! True worshippers are those who will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. True worshippers worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:23-24). In spirit and in truth is where we are to be when we worship God. True worshippers of God are defined as ones who worship God in spirit and in truth. True worshippers not only can worship God in spirit and in truth, but true worshippers will worship God in spirit and in truth. In spirit and in truth. To worship God in spirit and in truth - our hearts must be aligned with God's Spirit and God's truth. Worshipping God is defined in believer's who are in the spirit of God and in the truth of God - in spirit and in truth. Our spirit and our truth define if we are worshipping God. If we are in spirit and in truth, then we are worshipping God. Apart from being in spirit and in truth we are apart from worshipping God. And not in spirit and truth, but IN spirit and IN truth. Being "IN truth" is different than "truth". Being IN spirit and IN truth separates the true worshippers of God from the false worshippers of God. The children of God are IN spirit and IN truth. We all become the children of God the exact same way, by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, by accepting the salvation of God (Galatians 3:26). One must believe that God is all who he says that He is in His word to become a child of God. The children of God are in God's truth, we believe in God's Word and believe in His truth (not in our own truth). The saved in Christ Jesus, only the children of God who remain faithful and obedient to the word of God, are IN spirit and IN truth. The true children of God are the true worshippers of God. The children of disobedience, all who disobey God, all people who are without God, without the salvation of God, are all without the spirit of God and without the truth of God - John 8:47; 1 John 3:10, 4:3, 6; Colossians 3:5-6; Ephesians 2:1-5, 5:6. If you depart, abandon the truth of God and depart, abandon your faith in God, then you are unbelieving, and you are not in God's truth nor of His Spirit - 1 Timothy 4:1-2; Isaiah 59:2. The Truth is in Jesus! There is only One Spirit of God and only One Truth of God, which is in Christ Jesus (Ephesians 4:21). If your truth is from any other source than in Jesus, then you have been mislead and deceived. There is no salvation apart from God. There is no truth apart from Jesus. Unless you abide in Christ and He abides in you, you are not IN truth. John 15:4
Must worship God in spirit and in truth (John 4:24). Being IN spirit and IN truth separates the true worshippers of God from the false worshippers of God. There is only one Spirit and one Truth of God. True worshipers of God worship Him in spirit and in truth - God's spirit and God's truth. The children of God are IN spirit and IN truth. We all become the children of God the exact same way, by grace through faith in Christ Jesus, by accepting the salvation of God (Galatians 3:26). The saved in Christ Jesus, the children of God who remain faithful and obedient to the word of God, are IN spirit and IN truth. The true children of God are the true worshippers of God.
The children of disobedience are NOT worshippers of God. The children of disobedience, all people who are without God, without the salvation of God, are all without the spirit of God and without the truth of God. The children of disobedience do not obey God, they do not follow His Word, they reject His truth for another truth. Anyone can choose to reject the truth of God. God gives every person free will to either choose His way, choose His truth, choose to believe in Him and His word, or to choose another way. If you depart, abandon the truth of God and depart, abandon your faith in God, then you are unbelieving, and you are not in God's truth or in His Spirit. There is no spirit of God apart from Jesus. Unless you abide in Christ and He abides in you, you are not IN truth. John 15:4 One is either obedient to God - OR - one is disobedient to God. You are one or the other.
Must Worship in Spirit and in TruthPeople who do NOT worship the one true living God, IN spirit and IN truth, are NOT true worshippers of God (John 4:24). The children of disobedience, the children of wrath, the children of the world, the children of the wicked one, the children of the devil are NOT in spirit and are NOT in truth. The children of the devil, who remain disobedient to the word God, are NOT true worshippers of God.
The disobedient are not true worshippers of God. One cannot disobey God and be a true worshipper of God. People who are disobedient towards God, choosing the way of this world over the ways of Christ, choosing sin over righteousness, who do NOT obey God, the unrighteous, haters, unforgiving, ungodly, the unbelieving are NOT true worshippers of God. The unbelieving are not true worshippers of God. Unbelief separates anyone away from God. People who do NOT believe God is all who He says that He is in His Holy Word are NOT true worshippers of God.
The unbelieving are NOT true worshippers of God, because without faith it is impossible to please God. The workers of iniquity are NOT true worshippers of God. The servants of sin are NOT true worshippers of God. The unrepentant, the unredeemed are NOT the true worshippers of God.
Just calling yourself a Christian, or saved, does not make you a child of God, because salvation is performed by God Himself inside your heart, inside your soul, inside your spirit, of all who deny ungodliness, deny self, repent of sin, depart from sin, commit themselves to God through His Son Christ Jesus, and who receive the salvation of God, by grace through faith. Not all people who say they are "Christians" are of God (Romans 9:6). Believers are those who obey God and His Word and who accept His gift of salvation.
All people without the salvation of God through Christ Jesus are NOT true worshippers of God. Knowing about salvation does NOT save any one, even the devil knows about salvation (James 2:19). Knowing the word of God does NOT save anyone, because salvation is by grace through faith (Ephesians 2:8). A person could memorize the entire Bible, and still be lost. Knowing the Word of God does NOT mean that you are saved, because even the devil quoted the Word of God to Jesus in the wilderness. Calling yourself a Christian does NOT make you one, because only God saves, only God enables people to become His children, the saved in Christ, Christians, by His grace through His faith (Ephesians 2:8). By doing the will of God, which is obtaining His free gift of Salvation we receive eternal life (1 Thessalonians 5:9; Romans 6:23), by His grace through faith in His Son Christ Jesus we become the children of God (Galatians 3:26), and by living in faith all the days of our lives, then we will inherit the promises of God, eternal life with Him forever. True worshippers of God, true Christians, true believers of God, hear the word of God and DO IT, love it and live it, all the days of their lives, live in faith, live by faith (Galatians 3:11, Hebrews 10:38), from faith to faith (Romans 1:17), until the end of our faith is reached, when we see our Blessed Lord and Saviour, at the end of our lives and receive the salvation of our souls (1 Peter 1:9), receive our crown of life (James 1:12; Revelation 2:10), in Christ's Heavenly Kingdom (Ephesians 5:5).
What is the difference between Praising God and Worshipping God? Many people say praises to God but not all people are worshipping God. Many people sing songs at a church, but not all people who sing are worshipping God. God is seeking true worshippers to worship Him. Reading Scriptures is NOT worshipping God, unless it is in spirit and in truth. Singing a few songs in a church is NOT necessarily worshipping God. Visiting a church a few times a year is NOT worshipping God. Being a member of a religious organization is NOT worshipping God. Calling yourself a Christian is NOT worshipping God. Going to a church, repeating a prayer, singing a song is not worshipping God. Worshipping God is a spiritual connection with God - our spirit to His Spirit - honoring and worshipping God from our heart, in spirit and in truth. Reading or repeating prayers is NOT worshipping God. Reading words from the Holy Bible is NOT worshipping God. When we praise the Lord, we thank Him for our salvation and for all the wonderful gifts and many blessings that He has given to us. Worshipping God is from the heart, from your heart and soul, in spirit and in truth. Worshipping God is loving God for who He is, worshipping His Holiness, His Glory, His Majesty, His Wonder, His Grace, His Mercy as Eternal King. Worshipping God is giving yourself to Him. Worshipping God is surrendering all of yourself to your Creator, your Lord and Master, your Saviour, your Father God. Only through complete submission of ourselves to God, can we worship Him in spirit and in truth. God calls us to Him. God calls all of His children to Him, to worship Him. God is worthy. God is worthy of all our worship and praise. Our soul sings out to worship Him, my Lord God, "How Great Thou Art". We must disconnect from the world, and connect with God. To be centered in Christ, we must worship Him with our spirit. So, what is the difference between praising God and worshipping God? Worshipping God is giving glory and honor to God for who He is because HE alone is worthy to be worshipped. Praising God is thanking God for all that He has given us, "the fruit of our lips giving thanks to His name".
We praise God for what He brought to us, His only begotten Son, Jesus, as our ransom for salvation, His gift to us, so that we may obtain eternal life. We worship God by giving Him ourselves for who He is, for all that He is to us. We give ourselves as sacrifice to God for His use and purpose. Offering ourselves to God is worship.
Surrendering all to Christ Jesus is worship. Denying ourselves and following Jesus all the days of our lives is worshipping God, bringing glory to His name. God patiently waits for us to come to Him and worship Him. God says worshipping Him, is NOT standing in long robes and repeating many long prayers out loud for an audience, so you can be seen. True worship to God is from the heart and never for show.
Worshipping God is all about God, never about us. True worshippers of God bring glory to God, not to themselves. We should beware that whatever we do, never takes away from the glory of God. God looks inside our heart, not what we wear on the outside, or do for outward show. All people who put on a show for men, those who steal glory away from God for their own selves, all who are highly esteemed above God are an abomination to God.
God is NOT seeking performers or entertainers, but God is seeking true worshippers who seek His face, who give glory to Him, who take no glory for themselves. Through Christ Jesus, we are all received equally into the glory of God. No one person is greater than another person in the eyes of the Lord God Almighty, God loves all His children the same, equally, unconditionally, we are all His beloved children. God is no respecter of persons (Acts 10:34). We see each other tall or short, thin or fat, male and female, this race, that nationality, but God sees us all the same - His creation. God sees our thoughts and knows what is in our heart, and God knows if we are in Christ, or if we are unbelieving. Galatians 3:28. And ALL THAT WE DO, we are to do TO THE GLORY OF GOD.
We are to worship the one true living LORD God.The first commandment given by God, says we are to love the LORD with all our heart, with all our souls, with all our strength, with all our minds.
We all praise people and things that we love, but we are only to worship the one true living God Almighty. If we love the Lord God, we should all worship the Lord God.
The scriptures tell us that we are only to worship the LORD God and no other gods. Who do you worship besides the LORD God Almighty?
Worship the Lord Jesus ChristThe Scriptures tell us that only God can and should be worshipped by mankind. Since the Lord Jesus Christ is God, He is worshipped in the Scriptures and by the followers of God.
Jesus never stopped anyone from worshipping Him because He is God. God the Father never stopped any man, woman, or angel from worshipping Jesus Christ because Jesus is God. God the Father Himself calls Jesus God in the Holy Scriptures.
Worship God the FatherWe are to worship the One true living LORD God Creator Father of all creation, and NO other God. There is One God revealed to mankind through the Holy Scriptures in God the Father, God the Son (the Word), and God the Holy Spirit (Holy Ghost), who are not three gods, but is the One True Living God of all creation.

When we receive the gift of God, which is salvation through faith in Jesus Christ by the grace of God, we receive the Spirit of God. Through salvation we receive the Spirit of God, the Holy Spirit. This same Spirit confirms in our spirit that we are the children of God - Romans 8:16. When we are born again by the gift of salvation through faith in Jesus, we become the children of God - Galatians 3:26. The Spirit of God dwells inside of the children of God through faith in Christ Jesus. People who have the Spirit of God can worship God in Spirit. Spirit to Spirit - our spirit to the Spirit of God. The children of God receive the Spirit of God when we are saved. The saved in Christ Jesus worship God in spirit and in truth.
The lost, the unbelieving, have not accepted and received the truth of God, by believing in Jesus Christ to salvation. The lost cannot worship God in truth, because they have not yet accepted the truth of God. For more information see - SALVATION
So who are people worshipping, if they are not worshipping the one true living God in spirit and in truth? During biblical times through today, many people and cultures have worshipped other gods. Some are idols, statues resembling some person or thing, some worship the sun, the moon, and/or the stars. Some people worship saints, or other people out of history, even from the Bible. Some people worship a multiple of gods, some worship just a god. Some people worship themselves. Some people worship demons and or the devil, satan. People throughout history have worshipped other gods. There is nothing new to worshipping other gods, it is recorded for thousands of years in the Bible, of those people who worship other gods. For more information see - ONE GOD
Through the word of God we are all given instructions by God regarding whom and what we are NOT to worship. The Holy Scriptures are very clear and tell us all that we are NOT to worship anything or anyone other than God. Only God is worth of our worship. God says that we are NOT to worship:
Do NOT worship other godsThe word of God tells us we should worship no other god, only the true living LORD God Almighty.
Who are strange gods? Any god other than the one true living LORD God Almighty is a strange god.
We are only to worship the Lord God, we are not to worship anyone or any thing else. God says we are not to even have any likeness of anything in heaven above, in the earth, or in the sea. This scripture covers everything we can see or we know about. We are not to have any likeness of anything in heaven above, this includes God Himself, Jesus, the saints, or the angels. We are not to have any likeness of anything in the earth, this includes all people, all animals, all things of this earth. We are not to have any likeness of anything in the sea, this includes fish, and other animals of the sea. God says we are not to make, own, or possess any likeness of anything that is anywhere, in heaven above, in the earth, or in the water. That would include any image, statue, picture, jewelry, plastic, stone, metal, jewel, ceramic, cotton, wood, any image or likeness made out of anything. This scripture includes everything, any image of God or Jesus, the saints or angels, or anything in heaven or earth, anything in the universe. God says no to images of anything. We are not to make them, we are not to possess them, we are not to have them, we are not to worship them, and we are not to serve them.
Any graven image, or any likeness of anything that is in heaven above or in the earth beneath or in the waters beneath the earth, this includes anything and anyone you can think of.
Do NOT worship angels
We are not to worship any of the hosts in heaven, including angels, or any of the saints.
Regarding worshipping angels, the Scriptures tell us "See thou do it not" (Revelation 22:8-9). Angels are fellow servants of God, fellow servants of all who keep the sayings of the Holy Bible.
We are to know, like the angels know, that mankind is not to bow down to angels in worship. Mankind is not to worship any one or anything other than God.
Do not worship the host of HeavenWe are not to worship any of the hosts in Heaven.
Do not worship the stars, the moon, or the sunWe are NOT to worship the stars, the moon, the sun, or any planets in the universe.
Do not worship any saints
Do not worship satanThe devil tried to tempt Jesus in the wilderness, following His baptism. The devil told Jesus, if Christ would worship the devil then he would give Jesus everything in the world. Jesus told satan to get behind him, and then quoted the scriptures, "Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God and him only shalt thy serve".
Are you worshiping the devil? Are you serving God? Are you worshiping God? The word of God reads you serve who you obey. Who do you obey? Are you following Christ and living in righteousness? Or are you living in unrighteousness and serving the devil? God says that we either serve one or the other, but we can't serve both.
God says that we cannot drink from the cup of the Lord God and the cup of the devil. God says that we cannot be partakers of the Lord's table and the table of the devils. We cannot live in righteousness and live in unrighteousness. We cannot live for God and live in sin. Too many people like to play with the devil all week and sit in church with the Lord on Sunday. God says it doesn't work that way, that we are only deceiving ourselves. If we are living in sin, day in and day out, we are living in unrighteousness. Only by forsaking sin, turning away from sin, only by forsaking unrighteousness completely in our lives, only by departing from sin and the devil, can we serve God and live in righteousness. No one can serve sin and serve God, you can't have both. We either forsake the devil and serve God, or we forsake God and serve the devil. We either serve one or the other, but we can never serve both at the same time.
Do not worship any human being
Man is the creature and God is the Creator. We are only to worship the Creator God. No human being is worthy of our worship. Only the one true living God is worthy of our worship. The word of God reads that those who worship and serve the creature, a human being, are worthy of death, will perish.
Do not worship the beast, the antichrist
Do not worship familyWe are to love our families, but we are never to worship them or place them before God. We are never to choose any family member over God, God is always first in our life above any person in our life. Jesus never placed His human family above God the Father, and neither should we. To follow Christ we must surrender all to Him, even if it means leaving our family to do so. We must love God above everyone else, with all our heart, with all our mind, with all our soul, with all our strength. Our family is never to come between us and God.
A human being is the creature created by the Creator, who is God. No creature - human being - is to be worshipped.
Do not worship any graven images of anything or anyoneWe are not to worship any graven image of anything or anyone. God gave this commandment to all the world. Idols, statues, images, are an abomination to God (Deuteronomy 7:25). We are not to own them, we are not to make them, we are not to bow down to them, we are not to want them, we are not to have anything to do with graven images of any kind.
This commandment of God is broken every day, all around this world. Graven images of anyone is forbidden by God, is evil in the sight of God, and provokes God to anger (Deuteronomy 4:25). The God of all Creation is not in any graven image. The one true living God is not inside any graven image. Praying to or through any graven image cannot save anyone (Isaiah 45:20). The true God Almighty is far from anyone who uses graven images in any way. The Most High God will not hold anyone blameless who uses graven images in any way. God will not accept any excuse, from anyone, for using graven images in any way. Graven images have nothing to do with the One True Living God. All graven images are false gods, they have not life, they cannot answer prayer, they cannot save anyone from hell fire. All the graven images of this world will one day be destroyed, burnt by the fire of God, and all the people who have attached themselves to any graven image will judged and condemned by the Word of God.
The vanity of idols Idols made by the hands of men cannot speak though they have mouths - cannot hear though they have ears - cannot see though they have eyes - cannot handle though they have hands - cannot walk though they have feet - cannot smell though they have noses - cannot speak through their throat.
Do not worship doctrinesWe are NOT to worship doctrines. Religion was created by men. Do not worship doctrines of men. Whatever the name is of your denomination, belief, church, sect, assembly, or such like, never worship it. Your faith label is not your faith and is NOT God, your denomination is NOT God, do NOT worship your denomination, because your faith is in God alone to salvation. Your denomination cannot save anyone - only God saves people. Religion and faith are not one in the same. Your religious preference - your denomination preference - is not your faith. Do not confuse religious doctrine, any doctrine, with faith in God. The salvation of God is given to us by God through faith in Christ Jesus (Galatians 3:26). Faith in Christ Jesus may be practiced and taught by your denomination or at your church, or in your chosen religion. We should never place the doctrines of man - religion - before God. We can love our church organization, we can love our church family, we can defend and stand for our beliefs of Christ's doctrine, but never worship them.
Do not worship commandments of menWe are not to worship the commandments of men. We are to adhere to the laws of this world, as long as they do not contradict the word of God. Obeying our government is the law of God. Our country is to be honored, but not worshipped. Our country, our government, is never to be placed before God. God is always first.
"Worshipping in vain" is not worshipping God. When someone does not have a personal relationship with Christ Jesus, their worship is in vain, because their heart is not right with God. When someone worships God their own way, make up their own rules of worship, instead of how God says that we are to worship (which is in spirit and in truth), their worship is in vain. An example would be when people worship God with statues, idols, graven images, because God expressly commanded us NOT to use any form of graven images, idols, or statues. When someone worships, but they are not worshipping the One True God, their worship is in vain, meaningless. An example would be when a person worships a statue, an image, a graven image, an image of anything or anyone, that person worship is in vain, useless and meaningless, empty worship. God says that a graven image cannot hear, cannot see, and cannot do anything. Psalm 115:4-8 God also says that He - God is NOT inside of any statue, or in any image of any kind. Today, just like in ancient times, people throughout the world pray to, serve and worship other gods. God tells us that we are NOT to worship other gods, any statue, any graven image, this includes images of Himself, or any thing or person past, present, or future. For more information see - NO IDOLS
True worshippers of God, worship Him in Spirit, spirit to spirit, from their hearts.
We are to worship the one and only true living God, nothing and no one else. There is only One God in Heaven we are to worship, and He is Father, Son, and Holy Ghost and these three are One God (1 John 5:7). We are NOT to worship God's likeness (Father, Son, or Holy Ghost), or His image, or any graven image (Leviticus 26:1; Exodus 20:4-5; Deuteronomy 5:8-9). We are not to make, own, have, covet, or desire any image of anyone or anything (Deuteronomy 4:16-18, 23, 5:8). God tells us in His Holy Word that we are to worship God in spirit, NOT by a statue, NOT through any statue, and NOT with any statue. Using graven images leads to idolatry. All people who participate in idolatry in any way will not inherit the Kingdom of God (Galatians 5:19-21).
Only the one true God Almighty can save, He is a just God and a Saviour and there is no God beside Him.
I could name a million reasons why I worship God alone, because of His love, His grace, His sacrifice alone for my sins, is enough. I worship God because He alone is worthy of my worship. Only God is worthy of our worship. The love that the Lord God showed me, gave to me, by dying for my sins and the sins of the whole world, to pay the ransom for my sins, so that I could receive eternal life in the Kingdom of Heaven for eternity propels me to worship God alone. Jesus Christ, God the Son, was sent to earth to die on a cross, to be put to death for my sins, so that my sins could be washed away, and so that I could be redeemed in the sight of God the Father, so I could be reconciled to God, so I could have a relationship with God, commune with God, be with God now and forevermore. God resurrected His only begotten Son to life eternal, so I too could receive everlasting life with God, inheriting all the promises, as a child of God. This is God's amazing mercy that He gave to me and gives to anyone who will believe and trust in His Son, Jesus Christ. Although I am not worthy, though Jesus I am made worthy to be called a child of God, and to inherit all the promises of God, and to be with my Lord and Saviour for all eternity in the peace and joy of Heaven, in the presence and Glory of God.
God is good and His mercy endures forever
God keeps all his promises, He keeps all covenants with all His people.
God created all thingsLet us kneel before the LORD our maker.
Our Lord God is Holy
We worship God because He is our LORD
God hears those who worship Him
All believers of God, the children of God, are those who do the will of God. God knows who is His and hears those who are His. We are made God's children by our choice to believe in Jesus Christ for the salvation of our soul - Galatians 3:26. God hears all sinners who come to Him in godly repentance and with a genuine surrender to receive His free gift of salvation. All those without God, those who choice NOT to do the will of God, all who have chosen their own path apart from God, all who have chosen to be and remain sinners, the wicked, are the ones who God does not hear - because of their own choice to remain separated from God. John 9:31 states that God hears not sinners, meaning that those who have chosen death (life in sin) over His life (salvation) those He does not hear because of their choice to live in sin apart from Him. God hears all people who sincerely want God to be their Lord and Saviour and all who want the salvation of God, He hears. Anyone who calls upon the name of the Lord will be saved - this includes everyone, no matter who they are, and no matter what is in their past - Acts 2:21.
The testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy
Eternal Life
God is worthyGod alone is worthy of our worship. Worth-ship belongs to God alone.
We are to worship God in spirit and in truthWe are not to bow down to worship any image, this includes any image of God. God says we are to worship in spirit - our spirit to His Spirit.
We, as believers of Christ, are the children of God are the circumcision and we worship God in the spirit.
In the beauty of holiness
We are to worship God in the beauty of holiness - His Holiness. God alone is holy and worthy of our worship. The holiness of God is beautiful, breathtaking, and deserves our undivided attention in worship. We are to think of nothing else when we enter into worship of our most Holy God. Worship is sacred and holy business. Worship is serious. We live in a free nation where we can worship our God in a public sanctuary and we should always be thankful and reverent, honoring God for all that He is - our Creator, Lord and Saviour, the Almighty giver of love and life. I worship You, oh my Lord, I honor You, oh my Lord, You are my God, my Saviour, my Lord, I worship You !!
Lowering oneself or bowing down is showing reverence to God. We humble ourselves when we come before the Lord God. We are nothing, God is everything. God is the Master, we are the servant. God is the Creator, we are His creature. God is Lord, we are His children. There are many scriptures that reference people bowing their heads and bodies while worshiping God.
There are not any scriptures, in the word of God, that say the only way to worship God is by bowing your head, bowing down, or by any specific method of worship all the time. Worship God alone, none other. Regarding worship, the only absolute command of God is that we are to only worship Him. We are not to worship other gods, or any graven image, or anyone or anything else in the universe. There are many, many ways of worship and they are written in the word of God. Prayer, singing, shouting, dancing, and playing instruments are all forms of worship that have been recorded in the word of God. There is worship in the congregation of the Church, and there is private worship when we are alone. Many times the power of God is so overwhelming that we cannot help but kneel or bow in His presence. When we worship God, we are in the presence of His power and His glory. It is a humbling and emotional experience, many times we are not able to stand in the presence of the LORD God Almighty. The power of God is greater than anything in this world. The gifts of God that He freely gives to His children are beyond words. When our spirit speaks to our LORD God in spirit, many times it is impossible to stand. We are humbled by the Spirit of God.
God's concern is the direction of your heart - where your heart is pointing - where your heart is at - who has your heart and soul, not what logistic direction you are facing. God is in His Holy temple, the temple of Heaven. If we are truly concerned about facing God it should be up. Of course, God is omnipresent, He is everywhere at all times. God is not in the buildings built by hands of men, God is in the hearts of men, by the salvation which is by the grace of God through faith in Christ Jesus - Galatians 3:26.
In the old testament times only select tribes of people were allowed inside the temple. And so the people of that day prayed toward that temple. In the new testament, Jesus Christ came into the world, as Lord and Saviour for all people. Jesus died on a cross for the sins of the world. Jesus was resurrected from death, therefore we too can have everlasting life. Jesus Christ is greater than any manmade temple, Jesus is the temple of God.
When we accept Jesus into our lives to be our personal Lord and Saviour of our lives, we put on Christ, Christ is in us. When we accept the free gift of salvation from God Almighty, we are saved and we become the temple of God, through faith in Christ Jesus.
We no longer have to look toward any manmade temple to worship God, because God is in us, as believers of Christ Jesus, we are the temple of God. We can go inside a temple or church building and worship God inside, we do not have to remain outside of any temple anymore. Praise the LORD!!! We can worship and praise our LORD God anytime and anywhere, because God lives inside of us. Believers pray without ceasing and we worship without ceasing. Believers can pray and worship God in our spirit anywhere at any time. We have access to God at all times!! Halleluiah!!
Along with the ways that we are to worship God - God states in His Word the ways in which we are NOT to worship Him.
Do not worship to be seen of peopleVanity and self-pride is condemned by God. Being dramatic or exaggerated in worship because you have an audience is not worship, it's a performance. Yes, we worship in front of people in a congregation and we will be seen of people, but that is not our reason for worship. The purpose of our worship to God should never be for the sole purpose to be seen. Do not worship to be seen by people. Your worship time to God in private at your own home should not be different than your worship time when you are in a congregation. God instructs us that worship is to be toward Him alone. We are NOT to worship to be seen of people. Being seen by other people when worshipping is NOT our focus. When we worship God, we are NOT to be doing it just to be seen by others. We are NOT to worship God, in such a way ,that we are doing it just to be seen by others. Worshipping God for show, to be recognized, to be seen by others, is not true worship. Worshipping God is from our spirit, from our heart. True worshippers of God worship Him in Spirit, bringing glory to God, not men, not to oneself. Worship to God brings glory to God, not yourself. You are not the focus - God is the focus of worship. We must be aware of our motives, that we don't worship for show, to be seen by our friends and other people.
God condemns all people who worship before men to be seen of them and He says that such people have NO reward from Him in Heaven. God calls such people who worship for show, who are loud to bring attention to them, as hypocrites. God says such people worship to be seen by men, do so to bring glory to themselves, not to God. Worshipping God is spontaneous, our spirit worshipping God. True worship cannot be contrived or rehearsed.
Do not pray to be seen of men.
Do not pray in vain repetitions.Do not pray as the heathen do, who pray using vain repetitions. Do not pray in long prayers to be heard of men. God sees our hearts and knows our hearts. God knows if we are praying to Him from our hearts or if we are praying just to be praying because everyone else is praying and we want to fit in and pray the same prayer that they are praying.
Worshipping God is not a recording, saying the same thing over and over again. Worshipping, true worship, is from the heart - spirit to Spirit - our spirit in communion with God's Spirit. We are not to be like the heathen, who think that they are heard for their much speaking. The length of one's prayer or worship does not make it more important. It is not the length, the number of words used, that God hears, it is where the words come from - sincerely from our own heart.
Worshipping God is not a rehearsed speech or prayer. God calls repeating something, without a spirit connection, over and over vain repetitions, and we are not to do such things. Simply repeating, saying a prayer that another person is praying is not praying. Praying to God is praying your prayer from your heart. Reading words is not praying. A rehearsed prayer is NOT praying. A repetitious group of words is NOT praying. Saying certain words, and only those words, is not praying. Yes, you can pray a beloved prayer to God that is memorized, like the Psalms or the Lord's Prayer, but it must come from your heart, not your just your lips. And don't pray it just because the person next to you is praying it. Prayer to God always comes from the heart - your heart - all other is just a group of words, vain repetitions.
Do not worship as the heathenDo not follow the ways of the heathen. Do not worship as the heathen. God tells us NOT to pray as the heathen. The heathen are an unconverted member of a people or nation that does not acknowledge the God of the Bible; an uncivilized or irreligious person. An atheist is one who believes that there is no God. The heathen and atheists are without God, without salvation, without eternal life, - who are by their choice - eternally separated from God, and are the lost of the world. The heathen are all who are apart from the God of the Holy Bible, all who worship idols, all who worship multiple gods, all who worship another god. You can probably think of many world religions today that worship multiple gods and idols. Christians, believers of Christ Jesus, are not to associate with any of their worship rituals and Christians are NOT to partake in any of their heathen practices. This includes heathen ways like the Hindu practice of yoga. Do not be deceived there is NO Christian yoga, NO Christian occult, NO Christian witchcraft, NO Christian wizards, NO Christian fortunetelling, NO Christian enchantments or amulets or talismans, NO Christian talking to or hearing from the dead, NO Christian devil worship, NO Christian sorcery, NO Christian idolatry, NO Christian astrology, and NO Christian horoscopes. Learn not the way of the heathen - Jeremiah 10:2. The children of God are NOT to be as the heathens, we are not to learn their wicked ways.
There is hope for the lost, they can be saved by the grace of God through faith in His Son, Jesus.
The only thing that separates the lost - all the heathen - from the saved is faith in Christ Jesus to salvation - Galatians 3:26. We are all saved the exact same way which is by the grace of God through faith in Christ Jesus, without faith no one will see God - Galatians 3:26. Unbelief in Christ Jesus to salvation separates anyone from the Kingdom of God.
People have worshipped other gods since the beginning of time, today is no different, just their gods have changed. People worship other gods for many reasons: they are deceived, they choose to believe a lie, they are blind to the truth of GOD, they have turned their hearts away from the living GOD.
They are deceivedGod says all people who worship other gods are deceived.
The devil is the great deceiver, the father of lies, from the beginning and the one who is still deceiving the hearts of men today into believing in his lies. The devil is like a roaring lion, prowling this earth, seeking those who he can devour and destroy with his lies - John 8:44; 1 Peter 5:8.
They choose to believe a lieGod forces NO ONE to come to Him. God forces NO ONE to believe in Him and His truth. God gives us - every person born - a choice. We can choose life or death - God desires us to chose His life - God asks that we choose life - His life, His salvation - but He forces no one to accept His free gift of eternal life - Deuteronomy 30:19.
Sin is a choice. Unbelief is a choice. Every person born has to choose for themselves to be with God or be without God. Sin is yielding to temptation. We are all tempted by the devil to sin, but sin is not committed until we yield to the temptation. Just like Adam and Eve, God gifts each person born into this world with free will to choose. Adam and Eve knew the truth of God, but they both chose to believe the lies of satan. It is the same today, God calls us all to His truth, but many people choose to believe a lie, believe satan, follow satan. The devil is peddling the same lie as he did in the garden of Eden, which is to believe me instead of God, follow me instead of God, serve me instead of God. The devil is still tempting humankind with fruit, the fruit of the flesh, adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and the such like (Galatians 5:19-21). And as it was then, is it the same now, all who reject the truth of God will NOT inherit the Kingdom of God (Galatians 5:21), they will die in their sins (John 8:24), and be separated from God for all eternity.
They are blind to the truthBy refusing to answer God's call to salvation, people say no to God. God calls again, and again they say no. Over time that person's heart is hardened against God. God does not promise to call those who reject Him forever. When a person keeps rejecting God, time and time again, they have made up their mind not to turn to God for salvation. By rejecting God, these lost people have hardened their hearts. After a certain point, God will stop pursuing them, God will stop calling them. Unless they seek God, they will be lost for eternity. Because of their repeated choice of rejecting God, of saying no to God and His eternal salvation, their hearts are hardened and the become blind to the truth of God. A hardened heart refuses to see the truth of God, they have blinded themselves to the truth of God by their own rejection of God.
A person with a hardened heart, a blind heart, has given themselves over - by their own choice - to sin, over to uncleanness, over to the wicked one. The blind and unbelieving have given themselves over to be servants of the devil, by not choosing God as their Lord and Saviour.
Their hearts turn away from the only true living GodSin separates anyone from God. By rejecting God's call to salvation, people harden their heart, which blinds their heart to the truth of God. The lost of the world choose to turn away from God. They choose to forsake God. They choose to remain in unbelief.
Everyone born is called by God to come to Him and accept His free gift of salvation.
We all have the same exact choice, to say yes to God's call and accept His gift of salvation, OR to say no to God's call and reject His gift of salvation. God desires that we be where He created us to be - which is with Him now and for all eternity.
Those who worship other gods will perish, dieGod says those who worship other gods will die in their sin and perish, will NOT receive eternal life in the Kingdom of God.
Worshipping other gods is unbelief in the God of Heaven. All people who choose to worship other gods will not enter into the Kingdom of God because of their unbelief.
All the unbelieving choose to be separated from God. Unless they repent and turn to God, their unbelief will separate them from God for all eternity. Believers continue to pray for the lost of this world, that they will come to God, answer His call of grace and accept His free gift of salvation, eternal life in Christ Jesus.
Whosoever - all people - who call on the name of the Lord God shall be saved.
??? Not sure where to go from here ??? May we suggest . . .
